Archie Moore Henry Cooper Sonny Liston TWICE Floyd Patterson TWICE George Chuvalo TWICE Cleveland Williams Joe Frazier THREE TIMES Oscar Bonavena George Foreman Earnie Shavers and Larry Holmes and was never knocked out one SINGLE time? Not once???? How can a human being go through a boxing career facing off against such dangerous punchers and not get knocked out cold once. And not even lose a single fight by KO Just forget the idea of Muhammad Ali, and imagine another person going through that. What other fighters can you guys think of who have gone through such a horrific list of big punchers in their career, and survived each one on their feet? Is there even another one that compares in this department?
You forgot Quarry. Jerry was not primarily a KO artist, but he put Shavers away in one round, and was the only guy who ever stopped Mac Foster. Shavers and Foster were both undefeated when Quarry put the lights out.
Not the same level of fighters. Hagler is no Ali as great as he was and I genuily dislike Ali. I think most of his success had to do with his iron will. Chin is much more psyhological than physical I think. And Ali just didn´t want to lose or be KOed. I doubt there was one fighter in history who had more will than Ali.
It probably didnt hurt that he wasnt easy to hit cleanly. I mean fighters like Jeffries and Marciano might have iron chins, but they are going to get them checked a lot, especialy later in their careers when their reflexes have dulled. Two heavyweights who might have an argument for having met a comparable list of punchers are Sam Langford and Harry Wills, both of who were stopped.
That´s true for the 60s but not so much for the 70s. I cannot comment on Jeffries, ´cause the movie quality overall is too bad, but Marciano had a decent defense.
Ali took more punches than Marciano. Frazier bounced left hooks off of Ali's head for a great deal of the 41 rounds they fought. Not to mention all those other guys. Who DOESN'T believe Ali's health problems were caused by him taking repeated punches to the head ? Ali probably took more punches than any of the other heavyweight greats.
Marciano was barely 32 when he retired , though he did look to maybe have gone back slightly.Jeffries was 29 , no chance for him to slow down.If he had fought into his late 30's maybe we would not be calling Jeffries the Iron Man today?
Never said they were (with the exception of Hearns). Just another collection of big punchers that all faced and failed to KO one guy.
