There's been a deterioration in technical knowledge and skills that in many cases outweighs the improvements in athletic training, nutrition, etc.
Slickness...I especuially like the headbutt at 0.11 [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aJkiwu_04dw[/ame]
Ding, ding, ding, we have a winner! Also, no sport has a linear climb upwards, there are peaks and valleys in almost everything. For example, I would argue that I would rather have Greztky, Super Mario and Gordie Howe over any hockey player today and also in basketball, Jordan, Bird and Magic stand head, shoulder, and torso over the current crop.
because the new George Foreman, the new Lennox Lewis, the new Ali, new Tyson ecc... plays in NFL or in NBA...
I have heard that boxers today are more skilled from people who used to box 30 years ago and now train people. In the UK amature sceane at least.
Every sport evolves constantly and the athletes of today are better than those of yesterday but worse than those who will come tomorrow, it's just common sense. Your brain might tell you that the fighters were more skilled when you were young, or that the music was better or the chicks or even life and the universe in general, but that is just a form of cognitive bias that constantly overrates the past so that you don't want to kill yourself bc in reality your life sucks and will always suck, but you don't realize it bc things from the past seem so sweet, when the truth is it sucked big time when you were actually living in that moment. I'm getting carried away here, anyway, the essence is that if you think SRR would clean out todays Welterweight division or Joe Frazier would KO Vitali Klitschko you clearly are delusional and biased and the right place for is the Fantasy...excuse me, Classic-Forum is what they call it. And the "They fought more often so they were more skilled"-argument is bs too, they were fighting so often that they didn't have the time to train or heal properly so on average they were in a much worse physical condition, and I'm not even starting to include nutrition or science here. Get real people, Manny Pacquiao or Floyd Mayweather would tap SRRs ass just like Shaq would buttrape Chamberlain, Messi would destroy Pele, and Federer would annihilate Borg.
Sorry, I know some of you have that guy as top3 ATG and judging on accomplishments might be justified, but H2H Felix Sturm would beat him...
bc all the top athletes realize they can make way more money without having to take a punch in the face
i dont agree with this one bit..infact i think its the complete opposite.all fighters have gotten that technical we just rarly see that slugging which everyone craves for some reason.
