So basically Floyd and Pac's 154 belts are meaningless

Marg...but the debate begins where people stand when it comes to "catch weights". Pac vs Marg was a Jr Middle Weight fight....for a vacant title. The fighters agreed to fight for the title at a catch weight. Thus....our discussion....welcome.

I really can't disagree with a single word here. It's unfortunate in the sense that being a champion - and particularly a long reigning or undisputed one - used to be considered and filed as a pretty sizable career achievement/accomplishment. Resume has always been No. 1, but the former is a traditional avenue that is continually being abused and muddled. Used to be a good way to cut a legacy out as an ATG regardless of how strong your resume was, so long as you beat the best of your era. It's chaos now, really. The few thousand of us that post on here represent probably a significant portion of boxing's hardcore fanbase these days, and we're miniscule in the grand scheme of things. Kind of makes all the bickering and insulting amongst eachother pretty senseless stuff.

It's really unfortunate. We are fans of the sport who remember the days where boxing was "THE PREMIERE" Sport and where holding the Heavy Weight World Title meat you were the top athlete in the world. Now when someone wins one of the many Heavy weight titles it might not even be televised. Different times for sure...

The RING had the right idea after they came up with the "RING BELT".....It's the only belt fighters DON'T have to pay to fight for yet for most, it has the most meaning. Ironic. But I'm right there with you on your point of view. Boxing isn't what it once was. But I'm still a die hard fan. I miss the good ol days.

:goodRight. PAC only weight 144 if I'm not mistaken....He wasn't even fighting at the Welter weight limit when Marg technically weighed in as a Jr. Middle Weight.

But....if we are really getting technical....PAC beat Marg who was a Super Middle weight on fight night for a Jr Middle Weight crown. Deep..

The little guy is in fact operating under the pretense that he's the man if he decides winning at a catchweight makes him deserving of the belt.

Not really, he's testing the waters. If he decides to stick around at the weight and wants to be a legit champ, he'll defend at the regulation weight. If not he can vacate, like Pac at SWW.

Is Mares a legit beltholder at 122, IYO?

Not particularly. I don't regard him as necessarily better than someone like Rigondeaux at the weight, at least in terms of resume. Morel was done before the catchweight fight took place and Moreno will probably go back to bantam.

Testing the waters is not fighting for a belt at catchweight IMO.

Why not if the option is on the table? More bang for your buck....killing two birds with one stone....you get the picture...Guys like PAC, Ray, Floyd ect...have better options for a reason...why not take advantage of it.

That same logic likewise can justify champs themselves demanding catchweights. This entire conversation has been about which is more acceptable.

Also your listing of Floyd here is hilarious and further evidence of your poor efforts at equivocation.

Pacs belt is a complete farce....no one in there right mind would or should give him credit for that nonsense.

Now credit for gong up to 150 to fight Margo...sure..whatever. But that belt shyt is complete bullshyt! This is even in an era where belts are aready tarnished.

Catch weights have been threaded throughout the history of boxing for fighters who operate in two separate weight classes who want to make a fight. As a way for bigger and a smaller fighters to meet on "even terms". Who says it can't be for a title?

Now...if a champion at 154 asked for a catch weight fight for another 154 lb contender or champion that would be a bit much. And I've never heard of that ever happening. If I'm wrong, please offer me an example.

What's acceptable for boxing as it stand is that catch weights are here to stay. What's acceptable for some fans may be different but regardless...some great fights have been made because of catch weights.
