It does seem odd that when a fight is for solely a WBA title - i.e. Mosley vs Margarito etc, whereby there isn't a WBA champion holding say a Warren title, it is called Ordinary WBA title.

They say the aim is to allow unification fights...... whilst this is a side-effect, I would guess the aim is to rake in $$$.

HBO, Showtime, Sky, Setanta and the other major TV networks need to sit down with the powers that be, Varcarcel, Sillym [sorry] Sulaiman et al..... and agree a way forward for the sport.

Why can other individual sports, such as gymnastics, have one world champion - in each discipline, such as floor, rings etc.... substitute those for welter, middle etc and you have a solution.

Don't give me this about challengers being avoided etc..... if the champ isn't willing to face a #1 contender just strip them and push them to the back of the queue and let #1 and #2 fight.... if #2 doesn't want to face #1 then let #3 do the job.

At least this way, there would be fewer Gary Lockett's and Sergio Mora's challenging for titles...... and a world title will actually mean something.

What kind of a sport is it when winning a world title is secondary to beating someone in a non-title (and therefore in theory, meaningless) fight?
