As Joe said in his own words : 'It used to hurt me when people said I was hiding in Wales,' Calzaghe says. '"You don't want to fight anybody." Bull****. I've fought dangerous fighters. Roy Jones didn't want to know. Hopkins agreed to fight seven years ago, then he turned round the next day and doubled his fee.'

The fighter everyone wanted to avoid, in his twilight years, we're seeing why.

Well, I'm not a Calzaghe hater, so I can say this proves why Joe is HOF bound as soon his name can make the ballot. Pavlik needs to fight Rubio next to get himself together. Seeing him fight Ornelas reminded what kind of fight Kelly does best against. This would be a fight that help Kelly get over the B-Hop mess Uncle Bob and HBO made for him. Damn, Pavlik's people should have suck f-you to HBO and taken the Rubio or Duddy fight to Versus. He always got a lot of love from them.

One more thing, Youngstown fans...don't hold out for a steroids test to comeback positive. If Pavlik was fighting Mosley or Toney, I would be demanding it, but Hopkins is a pure boxer. The P4P best that Money Mayweather could only hope to be. It was getting too comfortable with his MW titles that led to close (and in one case, very disputable) decisions against Taylor. Calzaghe really did take B-Hop by a round. The only guy who thoroughly beat him is Jones, and if they fought now, RJJ would lose bad. His career arc has been downhill since the Ruiz win. Clazaghe will beat him. It will be a UD win, but RJJ will lose to Joe.

In other words, if Calzaghe loses you want to claim he was in his prime for spurious reasons, just so you can hold it against him?

Frank Warren's management kept him in Wales where the money was and whenever he tried to get fights with big American names they didn't want to know. However, your logic is skewed: if he is faded it means he's past his best; it has nothing to do with quality of opposition.

JT beat Hopkins twice. Calzaghe won the decision. He did not win the fight.

So you presumably hold this against Hopkins then?

Calzaghe's slaps have a way of making people cover up and run.

People seem to forget how Hopkins was completely disoriented in the second half of that fight and repeatedly walked to the wrong corner. Joe's slaps must have had some effect on him because against Pavlik he never had those issues

We were talking about 'big American names', Johnson is no bigger than various Americans that Calzaghe has beaten up over the years. Of course Johnson would have 'whooped Calzaghe', that's way he has all those losses to far lesser fighters than Calzaghe, including people that Calzaghe beat himself.

No he isn't, he's one of the most consistent fighters in the sport. He's only looked "overcautious" against precisiely two prior opponents, Roy and Taylor, who also happened to be the two most talented boxer-punchers he's ever fought in the span of 15-whatever years. And he was similarly overcautious in both fights with Taylor, which proves that it's not just a matter of consistency or deliberate choice on Hopkins' part.

Nice of you to undermine your whole point.
