So can anybody properly justify the 118-110 scorecard?

No. But watching Canelo make Golovkin miss in the late stretches was great. I like Gennady's pressure, the man can cut the ring up like a Benihana chef. Have you ever seen Golovkin miss that much in a fight?
What needs to happen is there needs to be a clear definition on what a punch is ,differing from a power punch.
Too many confusing definitions and I actually train at a gym and it can get a argument started.

Golovkin was the jab master but Canelo would counter him with some hard hooks and Genndys kryptonite...THE TIGER UPPERCUT!!

2 fights ago he got hit with the same uppercut. GGG does not have the defence for an uppercut or body shots. Keep him away from Ward. Andre is a surgeon when it comes to re arranging fighters organs. Hell he rearranged all of SMWs fighter roll call years ago. Ask Froch and Kessler.

In the "GGG/Canelo media scorecards and CompuBox" thread I made, I have so far come upon 75 scores/outcomes from people in and around the business.

Only 4 people besides Byrd had Canelo winning. 2 of them are Canelo's promoters, and 2 of them are Mexican nationals who were commenting about a fight with another Mexican national that took place during Mexican Independence weekend.

Hopkins and Hoya (2 promoters) both had it 115-113 (7-5 Canelo rounds).

Erik Morales apparently had it 117-111 for Canelo.

Morales is the only person out of the 75 in that other thread who is within fewer than 3 points of Byrd's score.

Basically, she's out on her own limb here.

It's unjustifiable TBH. It was a great action packed fight, edge of your seat stuff. But **** like that taints it. Re-viewing I had it 7-5 GGG. I think Canelo honestly played the part of proving how good he is, but Golovkin showed the dude is hard as a rock. Never tires, never slows down. Like a machine coming forward. Canelo was uncomfortable nearly every second of the fight past the 3rd. But his ability to fight so well whilst trying his best to avoid those shots was impressive, but ultimately I don't think his short moments of success (and he had plenty of moments, it was a very competitive fight) outweighed the majority of the time Golovkin had him under pressure and under fire. Had he chose to fight the full rounds instead of in spurts I could have seen him taking it, but he didn't either have the stamina or didn't want to risk firing back more to do that.

Regardless I can't see him taking more than 6 rounds if I'm being generous, I would say 1-2 (not sweeping rounds but they were feeler rounds that he did just a bit more in) 3-10-12 were good rounds by him and the ones I can give him. 6-6 or 7-5 Golovkin are the best I can do, and I feel 6-6 is a bit generous. 10 rounds is lmao wat levels

 

Also I'd like to note both their defences and chins impressed me. Golovkin and Canelo were catching so much and making each other miss so often and when either landed they both took it like men. It was a great showing. I just wish GGG had worked the body more. That's one of his money shots and I think it could have ended the fight if he had of actually thrown more than like 3

 

Golovkin blocked so many body shots on saturday! Clearly had worked on his body defence.

 

I've put in anyone who seems even somewhat legit whose score/decision I've seen.

I'm sure that if we went digging into Mexican/Spanish and Kazakhstan media, we could find a number of predictable sentiments.

I'm not avoiding those opinions, but I have not come across them as I have been primarily searching for information while using the English language. And the decisions that people have posted in that thread also seem to be coming mostly from people who speak English as their first language.

Chavez Sr, Chavez Jr and Morales are all exceptions. And two of them had the fight for Canelo, which is probably not a great surprise.

 

It's a shame the Byrd score took away from a damn good fight, I think the right score is 7-5 for GGG. It needs to happen again. If GGG got the win which he deserved, I think Canelo would have gotten credit for fighting a damn good fight because he did exceptionally well. Him getting the draw has taken away from his performance.

 

Golovkin promised the Mexican people he would fight Mexican style, Alvarez promised he would fight Mexican style, toe to toe, well, Golovkin told the truth, he made the fight, El Pollo lied...................he ran like the chicken in the Rocky movie. Alvarez got booed by his own fans, Golovkin was cheered...........................8 - 4 Golovkin same as Lederman's card................

 

TBH it is even hard to justify 114-114 mind alone 180-110.

I may be done watching big fights after this... Its just sad... 118-110 was one of the most blatant, incoherent and useless dirty scoring I have seen for a fight of this magnitude..

 

Legitimate cards could range from 114-114 to 116-112 for Golovkin. 115-113 for Alvarez might be defended on a major stretch. 118-110 for Alvarez is the result of a combination of delusion, stupidity and incompetence.
