A lot of rounds were like that, low activity with no big shots landed. In those rounds you use defense and ring generalship as your criteria, and score the round for Floyd, right? That's what happened with all the press scorers. Floyd looked more comfortable in there, and sold his body language to the judges better than Canelo did. There were a lot of toss-up rounds. But if your most important criteria was "clean effective punching" instead of "defense", then you could just as easily score those rounds for Canelo. (or even) As far as ring generalship, many of those rounds Canelo was the ring general. Canelo had center ring for a good amount of that fight, and Floyd was moving back and forth near the ropes especially towads the end of the fight.
I thought Canelo was to gree, to green for floyd. Though Canelo is a force, he was not ready for floyd. Then again who ever is? Floyd is just that good, I feel had canelo came @ the right time he probably would of won a extra 2 rounds but still be one sided fight. Floyd is just that good. Takes nothing away from Floyd, excellent name on his resume & a big risk, though canelo was green he was still a huge puncher, bigger, stronger & younger. Canelo showed us where is @ that night & keep in mind he is only 23. Still a long way to go.
mayweather won hands down he makes everyone look like crap, his defense and reflexes, footwork are awesome. the only thing i dont like about him fighting at higher weights is he does not have the ko power or even the power to batter, wobble cut up his opponents. he just looks like he is cruising to decisions. in every fight that he does not devastate his opponent he claims an injury in the ring. i do agree that a lot of the rounds were closer than people want to admit. after watching the fight 3 times i gave 4 rounds to canelo 7 rounds to mayweather and 1 round even. for all the people saying mayweather pitched a shutout, how many times did you watch the fight?
You make it appear like it was a repeat of the Baldomir fight. It was a fokking majority decision. Canelo won at least 5 rounds no way he was totally outclassed :deal
puncherschance and HeavyPuncha made perfectly logical, common sense, well-thoughtout out posts. puncherschance and HeavyPuncha should be the majority, instead they are in the minority! puncherschance said he gave 4 rounds to Canelo, 7 to Mayweather, and 1 Even. That sounds reasonable. HeavyPuncha gave 5 rounds to Canelo. Reasonable also. I think that's more like what actually happened. It was a fight that I thought Mayweather won slightly with his slick skill and his ability to evade punches. Canelo didn't look as comfortable and as smooth in the ring, and that's why he lost, but in terms of quality landed punches, it was the most even FMJ fight we've seen in a long time. That's why it's such a good stylistic match. Good stylistic matchups are where rematches and trilogies are needed. Especially when there was a controversial catchweight and a majority decision involved. All these things point to an immediate rematch. But the public is so brainwashed by the press to think that Floyd pitched a shutout and is light years ahead of Canelo, they aren't considering it. They are too busy attacking CJ Ross, and in doing so making it harder to sell a rematch.
I believe he landed a few hooks. maybe 2-3 up top. and 4-5 to the body. Even one that almost landed on mayweathers back.
I'd say both, Mayweather too good and Canelo too green. But then, I've been saying too green since this fight was first made and that Mayweather was using that to his advantage, and everyone tried to tell me that no, it was going to be a close, tough, competitive fight, so what do I know?
Was Canelo green against Trout? Knocking him down and all. Using upper body movement to evade punches. How green was that?
At the world class level, Canelo was extremely green. His only world class opponent coming into this fight was Trout, and Trout had only put himself into the world class consideration with his prior fight against Cotto. Otherwise his most notable fights were a 41 year old Shane Mosley, who was never great at 154, Josesito Lopez, who effectively jumped 2 weight classes to fight Canelo, and Kermit Cintron. It's insane to think that even remotely prepares him to fight the p4p #1, especially if that p4p #1 is Floyd Mayweather. Canelo was unproven at the high levels of the sport, his highest level fight had opened up big questions about his stamina down the stretch, and he was then put in with one of the most talented and skilled fighters to ever lace up the gloves. Yes, he has some good skills. Yes, he has showed some good signs. But he did not belong in a fight of this magnitude, against this quality of opponent. Canelo might go on to have a tremendous career, but it doesn't change the fact that he hadn't earned his way to this level yet and didn't belong there yet, the same way a 1961 Ali would have no business challenging a great champion. Canelo's record tells the truth: he's still being worked past the stage of promising prospect. Yeah, he's probably the best at 154, but that's because 154 either has a lot of mediocre fighters or similarly unproven guys in it. End of story.
End of YOUR story. You're telling a story. You're not dealing with facts. He's the best at 154. All there other guys that people want to fight Floyd are smaller guys that Mayweather will have a significant size advantage on. (except maybe Khan) Canelo is the one guy right now that Floyd doesn't have a size advantage on. Canelo was worked in this fight, because he was forced into agreeing to a Catchweight. That's how he was worked. Against, Trout, he wasn't worked, he was a full fledged champ who didn't look green at all. He proved he could hang with Mayweather for 12 rounds. Admit it, those were the closest FMJ rounds we've seen in a long time.
whats going to be the excuse for canelo fans when he fights molina next and the compubox numbers end up being within 10 percent of either fighter and there is no clear-cut winner. because thats exactly whats going to happen. and carlos molina is a poor mans version of yory boy campas.
