so tghat looks like a middle weight fight so again its a MW fight not a catch weight. i do not follow or is it he can weigh anything he wants and they pick thr catch weight the day of the weigh in ?

why dont they just agree to have a limit within MW say a imit of 159 so its still a MW title fight nd not a catch weight. i am way too confused.

They're fighting at a catchweight of 159, which means neither guy is allowed to weigh in over 159lbs at the weigh-in. They can come in at 159, 155, 142... Whatever, they're just not allowed to weigh more than 159 for the weigh-in, and that is by definition a catchweight fight since the weight limit is somewhere between two of the designated weight classes. Yes, they're fighting above the JMW limit and below the MW limit, but the weight limit is 159 which is a catchweight... Same as Mayweather-Canelo at 152, Pacquiao-Margarito at 150, etc.

 

Cotto can still fix this and make the fight for 160

Thats exactly what Im saying.. The whole thing of a catch weight make no sense unless you have to fighters that are two devision apart, then catch weight makes science . In the case of Cotto request of asking Martinez to come in at 159 is just dumb and a wast of time.

Cotto is reported to be coming in at 155 witch is consider a middle weight by all governing bodies. Marteniz is to weigh 159 which is still considered a middle weight buy all governing bodies. So their both are competing at middle weight limit, so whats the point of the request?



So if anything from 155 to 160 is consider a middle weight, where is the advantage and disadvantage for ether fighter ? Would it really matter if matter if Marteniz came in at 160? Not that it would matters, Marteniz last 5 fights he's weighed in between 157 and 159!!
So the request really make no sense, it does not give ether fighter an advantage or disadvantage. Other then letting Roach to grand stand the request is a wast of time.
