Right? Knowing the WBC he wont. Remember when they had Pong and Arce has WBC full and WBC interim champ respectively for like 4 fights a piece. But if he does, then what does Tarver do and will he be an option for Joe in the near future. Joe has often talked about fighting Tarver in the past.
I'd like to see Dawson fight Diaconu in July/August and then the winner to take on Tarver toward the end of the year. If Calzaghe fights Jones in the late fall, that would set up a potential bout between Joe (likely) and the winner of Tarver/Dawson/Diaconu in 2009. I'd be very surprised if it worked out that way, but at the worst you'd have Calzaghe retired, Hopkins retired, Woods retired (essentially), and true supremacy at 175, with Glen Johnson looming as the only potential monkeywrench. And he'll be getting very old by then, too.
Well if he doesnt he will be stripped in about 90 days I've been waiting eagerly to see the destruction of Dawson at the hands of Diaconu NOW its only a matter of time!! As for Joe he'll want nothing to do with him....he only wants old, on the verge of retiring fighters not prime warriors like Pavlik or Diaconu, who would thoroughly slaughter the Welshman Enough hating already and props to Adrian and Joe on their victories this past weekend despite not seeing the best in either fighter we certainly saw unbreakable wills of true warriors and thats why boxing is good.....just a note to everyone: the Diaconu-Henry fight was much more exciting to watch than the Calzaghe-Hopkins fight mainly because of Hopkins' dirty tactics Cheers Oh and please donate blood to the chinachinned, furcoat wearing ****** of a thief known as Chad Dawson he'll need it after a fight with Diaconu:yep
Real, what did you think of Diancou's performance? Henry was better than I thought he would be but I felt Adrian closed the show poorly. He seemed tired and he took a lot of right hands towards the end. I disagree with you, I say Dawson beats him.
One more round and Diaconu would have been koed. His stamina is terrible. He did win the fight against a much better opponent then I expected.
Dawson will beat Diaconu no problem, but I'd like to see Dawson vs Tarver before. I guess unification fights have priority rights, right?
[yt]BW8yKCh6quw[/yt] Please watch round 12 of their fight again and tell me who won it! Look out for defence, effective punching and counterpunching, ring-generalship and ring-smarts, not just for come forward strength and aggression. Also, look at Henry - how fresh was HE in the last round? How many more rounds could HE have lasted?
First take on it, I gave all the close rounds to Henry and had it a draw. Second take on it, I had it Diaconu by one point. Wasn't happy so I looked really close...Diaconu won it by 2-3 rounds...Diaconu won 6 rounds; Henry - 3; 3 were close... Take the last round, for example. Many people give it to Henry, because he looked stronger and more aggressive (I did too!, first and second time around); some even think Diaconu going through the ropes was a KD! Well...if you look closely, Henry has Diaconu against the ropes, he's pushing his neck down and away with his arm and tripping him with his legs - pushing Diaconu through the ropes...clearly no KD... ...but, if you count defence, counterpunching, ring-generalship and and effective punching...Diaconu gets at least a draw in that last round...I think. Diaconu also did better than Henry in the 10th round - it's on youtube but it's poor quality... It wasn't a great performance by Diaconu, but when I look at the footage closely, objectively, I start appreciating more what he was doing, not just what Henry was doing, which was more obvious... Interbox and his trainer said they had all underestimated Henry. The plan of the fight was to go for the KO early. His trainer realised Henry was too strong, by the middle rounds and told Diaconu to start boxing more; he didn't, trying to impress with a KO, wo he gassed and struggled badly by the end...but Henry wasn't fresh either, in the last two rounds...look at him dragging his feet in the last...(at least he kept on his feet, unlike Diaconu).
I read somewhere that Dawson might drop the WBC belt to save the Tarver fight, since Tarver has a belt as well anyway. And, then Diaconu might fight Glen Johnson, who was there at the Diaconu Henry fight and who obviously deserves another shot at the belt but probably won't get it from Dawson. It makes sense for Johnson since the big names don't wanna know him. He NEEDS a belt to entice them.
Yeah...Dawson wants to fight Tarver in a unification fight, but he needs Diaconu's permission for that. Unless he makes Diaconu a really big o$$er as a step-aside payment for one fight, Diaconu was quoted as saying he wants to fight Dawson next, for the full title. If Dawson doesn't make him a good enough offer, Diaconu will be declared WBC Champ, Dawswon will fight Tarver for the IBF and Diaconu will have to defend against Johnson in his very next fight, which is fair. :good
Although I'd be excited to see Dawson/Diaconu, this scenario actually may work best for all involved. Diaconu shouldn't have to wait any longer for his shot, and he'd get the belt. Dawson finally gets the big-exposure bout against Tarver that he chased throughout 2007, and if he wins, he'd get a different belt. Johnson deservedly gets another title shot. The winner of those two fights could square off at the end of this year, perhaps, and that fighter either would get a shot at Calzaghe or outright claim the true title if Joe opts to retire. It's win-win for the fighters and the fans, and Showtime could run the two fights as a co-feature on a big card in the early fall.
Well, if Dawson gives Diaconu something like $1,000,000 as step aside money, Diaconu will probably take it. If not, apparently Diaconu will make an offer as big, up to $1,000,000, for Dawson to fight him in Bucharest... By the sounds of it, Diaconu doesn't just want the belt, as I assumed previously; he wants to beat Dawson to prove that he deserves the belt. Only a BIG sum will make him change his mind, apparently. Dawson offered him $50k as step aside money last time, which is laughable given that Diaconu offered Dawson $1,000,000 to fight him instead of Johnson, in Bucharest.
