Boxing isn't a very lucrative sport, unless you have made a name for yourself. Paul Spadafora and Edwin Valero were both unbeaten, and I doubt if either of them made much over 100k for a fight, so records mean ****. Its all about having the right connections, too.

This thread shows people lack of knowledge.
The National average in the USA is HEAVILY skewed.
Reality is low to mid 20's. Can the average person afford to retire after 45 years of work. No. So can the average boxer after 10-20 years. No. BUT First define "average" in boxing. Average to me would be the C level's.
B levels MIGHT and A levels better be.

Manfredo lost his money in real estate.
Lots of it. Ortiz and anyone else making that much money can retire. To what life style. Depends how greedy you are. IE how much **** you want (not what you need)

Anyone who thinks you cant live off a million is a ...
well we can think of numerous additives to go here. At 4 percent that's 40K a year in interest alone. Remember the average only make 20-25.

I forgot who had the transcript of the interview between one of the other boxing news websites and a world class trainer who talked about how he would do the math in front of guys to show them what they would actually make if they made it to the big leagues without ever going truly Super Nova(and thus most of the potential boxers, left his gym and never returned). But for the average world class fighter they wouldn't be living in the lap of luxury(brand new cars, mansions, penthouses, etc.) after leaving the sport, they might have a decent house, a nice nest egg but they would have to work to avoid eating their way through their money.

:-( Yet the average boxer works harder than 90% of 9-5 Joe Schmoe ****ers.

How's paulie malignaggi and juan diaz doing right now? Are they now stable financially? These guys had 2-3 big fights in their career. I'm sure they have businesses right now,

An "average" pro in my eyes isn't ortiz or berto.

I think an average pro is someone like Alfonso Gomez or Manfredo Jr.

**** Diaz. (and I say that with much fondness).

He has a law degree. That puts him in a much better earning position than MOST boxers. (even elites/champs)

If he manages to somehow **** up his life financially, he deserves no sympathy whatsoever.

From what I understand most pro boxers including guys who are good enough to headline E S P N cards have day jobs. It's only the guys who are on world championship level who can devote their lives to boxing full time.

When I think of an average pro I think of guys like Charles Shufford, Scarp Iron Johnson. Guys that would show up to fight an get a paycheck

In an interview with the Ring Magazine a while back, Malignaggi said he could retire whenever he wanted to due to good investments.

The average boxer? No. Look at guys like Paris and Judah, they are far from average. They fought in an IBF eliminator and I believe the purse bid was won by Main Events, which was $70,500, in which 60% went to Judah, 40% to Paris.
