And I'm not talking about hitting some lower grade/weight challenger flush, you know how that ends 99% of the time. Guard up, Canelo launches a shot, how much devastation does he unleash? Can he hit through the guard? Does he have game (plan) changer power or rather a brick-by-brick demolition, perhaps neither? How about the effects of his body blows? Let's see his last 10 fights. - Chavez Jr.: fight above Nelo's weight, goes to cards, no KD - Smith: overmatched opponent with untested resolve, kayo - Khan: huge shot vs. china chin, kayo - Miguel Cotto: been stopped, sees the end, no KD - Kirkland: Nelo went where Ishida's been, kayo - Lara: razor-tight decision, no KD - Angulo: been stopped, Nelo stops him on his feet - Joy: wide, fairly competitive loss, no KD - Trout: razor thin win with KD - Josesito: overmatched opponent overrun, kayo That's 9-1 (5KO), 50%
Yeah... I see no proof whatsoever to suggest that he's a savage puncher at even 154, nevermind 160. Most of his highlight reel knockouts are against MUCH smaller opponents who's chins are suspect even at their own natural weight, or just chinny like Kirkland.
Ask Amir Khan how hard Canelo hits on a scale of 1-10, he'll probably say 11. Ask Liam Smith how hard he hits. Smith ain't built like Canelo, but in terms of size and height they are very comparable. Smith hits quite hard for a 154-lber. Smith and Canelo had both been fighting at 154 / 155 for some time. In Smith's last fight, he failed to make 154, so he's definetly a big enough guy if he had such trouble making 154 vs Liam Williams. (and it cost him the WBO title so there was really incentive to make 154) You know he's got power, just look at how he dropped Trout, and how Trout turned into Bambi on ice. Canelo's got deceptive power, take a look at the Mayweather fight, Floyd was very wary of that Canelo power and had to use the jab more than usual to keep Canelo from getting inside. Canelo's got power. Does he got Golovkin power? Probably not, but he has more fluidity, better punch selection and speed than Triple G to actually get his punches to the target when he sees openings. Triple G may punch harder, but can he take advantage of any openings that Canelo gives him to land those big shots?
Idk, I think he is strong and explosive but maybe not as hard hitting he looks to be. Canelo have some highlight reel ko's but that against guys that's known to be ko'd, from what I can remember he haven't ko'd anyone that haven't been ko'd before. Canelo is stronger and more explosive than most but have about average punching power.
Canelo's has must-respect-me power and is technically solid. He's best when he targets the body. He wears down fighters over many rounds.
If Triple G is over-agressive and charges in recklessly, we know that Canelo is very skilled at making an aggressive fighter coming at him miss, taking a step back and digging in a left hook to the body. Triple G's style is wide open to be hurt to the body by Canelo. Canelo does not leave himself open to body punches like Triple G does.
I'd probably say about 6-7. He's capable of knocking most guys out but it's going to have to be a pretty good shot to do so. In the context of the GGG fight, I would have him behind Lemieux, Stevens and Jacobs for sure. Maybe Rubio too, he has a fair crack on him
I dont think hes a huge puncher... He has decent power.. I say a 6 or 7 out of 10.. Most of his KO's have been against smaller guys or over matched opponents.. And of course we all knew Khan was a matter of time... He is a really good fighter though.. And when he sets up his punches he can definitely KO anyone..
Aye, 6-7 sounds about right for me. Of course he can place a punch for a beautiful effect, though I don't consider him a game changing puncher. Perhaps if he can land clean to the body.
Canelo is a product of careful matchmaking. He's not as powerful a puncher as his highlight reels suggest. If he wasn't well connected he will have at least 2 L on his record.
