So Fitzsimmons gets destroyed 2x by Jeffries yet he has a shot vs Louis and Marciano?

Probably suggesting Fitz was a fair bit heavier and using the 167lb weight as mind games?

Fitzsimmons was notorious for understating his weight.

Presumably he did this to lull his oponents into underestimating him.

I'd pick Liston to beat Fitz. Does that make you feel better? :hey

    I dont get it.

These comparisons surprise me greatly, despite the stories of Fitz being a heavyweight body on a lightweights legs. I had always just assumed these stories to be exagerated.

I originally assumed that it was only his reach which was longer. We now hear that fitz has bigger arms, waist, Upper body etc. Well i dont really know because no one has posted Marcianos stats but it has certainly been suggested by others that Fitz has the bigger upper body, and it may only be lower legs that is bigger (something i would have thought is doubtful), but anyway the whole point is all of a sudden, it doesnt matter because Marciano has lower leg size which is suddenly all important and where you get your power from? And Marciano is bigger because he ballooned up to over 200lbs when not in training.

I really just dont understand the reasoning behind this line of thinking. Are you saying that it is weight only and not size that is important?

Fitzsimmons was weighed on a spring balance the day of his fight with Corbett he scaled 157lbs.

Try that against Marciano or Louis and see what happens...Fitz will be in La La Land. Joe Frazier would decapitate Fitz if he tries to lean away like that from a left hook.

As near as it is possible to be sure, Fitzsimmons made 152 or 154, I think 152 for his match with Jack Dempsey.

He was in his mid-twenties for that fight.

don't try to compare beanpole Fitzsimmons to the far more husky Rocky Marciano. Theres a reason fitzsimmons naturally weighed 155-165lb while marciano naturally weighed over 200lb and had to trim himself down to 185lb.

Ask any pro athlete/powerlifter, etc....Skinny Legs = doom. Leg muscles are a huge foundation of strength and power.

I agree, rocky is clearly more sexually attractive.

    ......Wait.

How come so many big punchers have skinny legs then ?:huh
Joe Choynski with Johnson standing behind him.
Jeffries ,Johnson,Fitzsimmons, and Corbett, named Choynski as the hardest hitter they faced.

    --------------Fitz----------------Jeff
    Height--------5ft. 10-1/2 in.------6ft. 1-1/2in......5 11
    Weight-------172 lbs.-------------225 lbs............184
    Chest, Nor.---41 in.---------------43 in................39
    Chest, Exp.---44 in.---------------48-1/2 in...........42
    Waist---------32 in.---------------35 in................32
    Biceps--------12 in.---------------16 in.................14
    Neck---------15 in.---------------18-1/4 in............16 3/4
    Wrist---------7-1/2in.-------------7-3/4 in..............7 1/2
    Calf----------13-1/2 in.------------17 in................14 3/4
    Ankle---------8-1/4 in.-------------10 in................10
    Thigh---------20 in.----------------25 in................22
    Fist-----------12-1/2 in.------------13-1/2 in..........11 1/2
    Forearm-------11-1/2 in.------------13-1/2 in..........12
    Reach--------- 71 1/2....................76 1/2? ............68

So, looking at the tale, Fitz has reach, but there is very little in ever thing except calf's and ankle (although Rocky is ever so slightly bigger in most areas). Certainly not the physical mismatch you expect. And Jeffries pretty much dwarfs both of them in all areas except ankle size.
