So Fitzsimmons gets destroyed 2x by Jeffries yet he has a shot vs Louis and Marciano?

The reality is that Fitz matches up very well with Rocky in size and style ... the Sharkey fights are proof of this ... a small, not fast , aggressive minded fighter who would come right at him is a perfect match up for Fitz ... I personally like him to flatten Marciano but freely admit it could go either way .. a much larger, iron jawed, super strong ape like Jeffries who fights calm and keeps a slow pace is a much tougher match up ..

You didn't just compare Tom Sharkey to a prime Rocky Marciano did you?

For such a "super strong ape" the 220lb jeffries seemed to have had an awful lot of trouble controlling super middleweights. I think his "power" and "strength" are a bit overrated.

I would also like to add "Larger, iron jawed, stronger," are 3 words to describe what Marciano has over Tom Sharkey, amongst many I left out as well. Rocky matches up great against Fitzsimmons. A older stationary standup 165lb fighter with a vulnerable chin who likes to mix it up? This is Marciano's dream fight. Fitz would not be able to handle a bigger super strong and durable powerful non stop punching machine for 15 rounds like Marciano. Marciano would give fitz all kinds of problems in that crouch, especially with the duck/weave to a leaping left hook on a standup fighter like Fitz.

I take it you never played sports at a high level. If you don't have strong legs, your ****ed :good. Leg Muscles are crucial for power, especially for the big guys.

The closest thing to an "Athlete" for a track star are the sprinters. Marathoners/long distance runners aren't athletes, they just eat there muscle away. I respect the hell out of them for what they do, but thats not the mark of a true athlete.

Here is a real running athlete with powerful legs

You think all of Tua's power comes from his upperbody? Think again

Because runnin 100M orrrr 40m.....isss sooo much like fighting 12 -3 min rounds.....

no ones arguing that the power dosnt come from the legs the point is that scrawny legs can be strong...tua had some big legs but he had a massive upper body.....

marciano had 22 in thighs....2 in larger then fitz and 1 in larger calfs....does that also mean that marciano was weak legged?

Unfortunate for your theory, boxing matches last longer than the 10 seconds Donovan Bailey took to the run the 100 meters.

A boxing match lasts more along the lines that Carlos Lopes took to run the 10000 meters.

    Sandy Saddler
    Lew Jenkins
    Alexis Arguello
    Jack Dempsey
    Joe Choynski
    Max Baer
    Tommy Hearns

To name just a few ,and there are plenty of big thighed boxers who can't punch worth a ****

Boxers are Stan Ketchel ,George K O Chaney ,and lefthook king Charley White. No massive thighs there.

I'm sorry, but you are arguing a case that is not supported by facts.

Jim Jeffries had legs like tree trunks but his power did not compare to Fitz's.

I apologize Seamus. Did I hit a rough spot? Did you fly out to boston yesterday to watch granny walk a telathon for 12 hours? Were you that guy holding out a water bottle and holding up a sign saying "You can do it! You can do it!".

People are starting to realize that long distance running is actually not good for you. It eats your muscle away. Many of today's athletes are bigger, faster, and stronger. Science has evolved at an alarming rate. We now understand the intricate nature of how the human body works. This knowledge has a direct carryover to the world of boxing.

Boxing is an explosive, anaerobic sport. The act of throwing punches, round after round, while contending with an attacking opponent is a daunting task. Boxing is perhaps the most physically demanding sport of all.

As a boxer, you must punch, slip, and block with split second movements and reactions. A boxer must be prepared to fight with intensity, round after round. Your body must be conditioned to throw the same explosive punches in the last round that you started with in round one. Rather than wasting valuable training time with LSD running, a fighter should make more valuable use of his time by training in a sport specific manner. One of the best ways to condition the body for boxing is through interval training.

In my personal opinion, long distance runners are not athletes. You cannot possibly put them in any other sport and watch them have success with their skinny toothpick builds. Sprinters, I think they could adjust to other sports just fine. They are often muscular and explosive which would help them become successful in a lot of other sports.
