Couldn't agree more with Caballo67. Easy fight for Froch. What does Groves bring that Froch hasn't already beaten?
Froch wide UD in my mind, Groves won't want any heavy exchanges and Froch will put Groves on the back foot with a lot of pressure, Groves has not faced anybody like Froch yet and I fancy it'll be a rude awakening although I think it's a good fight for both men and Groves will always have a chance.
Agree with this. Not saying the fight isn't on as a lot of posters think so,but I would have thought Booth would rein Groves in even though he wants it.My worry for him is his tendency to cut,and I think he could give a decent account until being stopped late by Froch, who is fit, used to the distance and undeniably still a beast. That being said,he is not going to get any better, and George has a bit of time yet.
Yes but Froch actually came and out and made a big deal of saying he'd floored Groves didn't he on one of the Froch-Kessler build-up progs? Wasn't he flicking through his diary in his kitchen or something and made a big play of going back to that day's sparring and pointing it out? Poor form that. I stand corrected if Froch didn't say that though.
Really? explain to us why you think that, as i said i just cannot see how groves can fight froch off the back foot all night without getting tagged at some point :huh (see my post earlier) he has no inside game to keep the fight close, nullifying froch (like Ward did), he doesn't have the movement off the back foot like Dirrell/Ward, also he doesn't have a dominant front foot jab and power right hand like Taylor. ALl those fighters have much better ring intelligence then groves has as well. I just cannot see how we can go with groves :huh
Groves has the talent, skills, and I wouldn't be surprised if he began to outbox Froch. However, Carl has the ability to turn it into a fight, take Groves shots, land big shots and do so for 12 rounds. Should such a situation arise, Groves would be required to show the intelligence and/or the physical ability to deal with that. The reality is that there are only a few in the world who weigh 12 stone and could do so. So despite the ability, Froch is the strong favourite purely based on we KNOW what Carl can do but we have to wait and see with Georgie.
yes achilles, thats the whole point the smart money has to go on Froch i just currently cannot see how Groves can win this one. Nothing in his past shows he has anything other boxers who came close/beat Froch had. Thats why ppl who bet on Groves will be sorry and lose money on this fight (i am assuming no injurys to froch/cuts etc as thats the only way groves can win this)
Booth is a clever man and good tactician.. I'm sure he must have seen something in the sparring between Groves and Froch to allow this fight to happen. Yeah Groves got dropped (body shot?) during the sparring 3 years ago, but Groves must have been doing something right for Booth to let this go ahead + lets not forget Groves has come on leaps and bounds in the last 3 years.
Agree Furey. But from the last person he faught to an elite fighter in SMW its a big ask isn't it? its fine devising tactics but its all good until you get in the ring and taste the punches from a fighter. Its simple how Groves will fight this primarly on the back foot and with movement, looking for frochs low hands and then launching attacks. Mcraken is no fool either he knows how Groves is going to approach this also. Oh well its all good until end of the fight and it be apparent Groves just came short.
Big fan of Groves, been to a few of his fights and I really rate him highly however I think this fight is 12/18 months too soon.
Like he did with Haye/Thompson in only haye 11th or 12th fight? Booth is being true to form and deserves props. Win or lose the hayemaker team will have a better understanding where groves needs to improve.
