So...has anyone ELSE changed their mind at the last moment about Calzaghe v. Hopkins?

Presumably by benefitting from the great training of that super-team!

If he counterpunches and lets Calzaghe do all the running around, he saves energy.

Still, I think Calzaghe has a lot more, even if this applies.

No. I picked Calzaghe from the start and still think he will do a number on Popkins. I can just see Hops head pinballing around with a shocked expression on it, though at times I see Calzaghe with that dazed look on his face like against Mitchell. So I think he might touchdown at some stage but still win in convincing fashion.

By limiting the action using lateral movement and feints.

This is what I have, too.

But do you not think, like when he fought Taylor, he will need "rounds off". I agree that he is able to work harder at 175 than 160 (if that is your position?) but the difference won't be THAT big.

Hopkins will lose ALL of these rounds, won't he?

Yes, he'll need rounds off. But I have a feeling he'll put enough of them in the bank with clean punching that will enable him to take a couple rounds off.

I havent changed my mind. I think JC will take a close 115-113 decision over hopkins. I hope i'm wrong.

But he needs to take them at the back end Brooklyn, when he absolutely has to, not at the start...with so much emphasis finishing strong in the corner and in the man, I think there is a stumbling block here.

What do you think your card will look like? Your own card?

Robbi and I agreed that he needs to get off to a good start, stay active early, and find holes for counter punching opportunities. If he gives away early rounds or gets seriously outworked in the first 2 or 3, there's no way he wins this fight.

I can't say for sure, obviously, but my guess is 115-113 Hopkins. You?

I agree that BHop will need to limit the action. But I just don't think he can do it. I foresee any movement that BHop puts on being negated by JC swarming him. JC knows that he HAS TO keep his workrate up to win this fight; and he is one of the best in the business at it. And you really think that BHop will be able to take rounds off? This is how I see BHop possibly getting stopped, because I honestly think that JC is going to force BHop to have to fight back which in turn is going to gas him quicker. This is just my .2 cents on the fight, and god knows I have been wrong before but im never afraid to throw my opinion out there

Those holes exsist, and I think that this is the right strategy, but to be clear, it is one that Hopkins also needed to persue against Taylor - and failed to, twice. This is different, but still...I also fear there is a chance he'll get beaten up in 11 and 12 if he is to busy early. So like you say - he needs rounds in the bank. At least we know he won't panic in that situation.

115-112 Calzaghe maybe...but if you saw my thread on Hopkins reasons to be cheerful I did say - the judges cards could look very very different to that for a variety of reasons.

    Not long now.

    Deduction...though who knows?

If Hop could knock down Calzaghe, that might create some panic. He'll go in confident of course but if something goes really wrong early, a flash KD, a warning for slapping, a slip ruled a KD something like that, he might start to panic a bit.

It's taking on a sort of Lewis-Tyson proportion for me...it can't help but dissapoint, really can it?

Personally, I am a fan of both fighters. Before the fight was signed, I picked Calzaghe to outpoint Hopkins with his speed and workrate. After seeing the Countdown to Hopkins-Calzaghe, it reminded me about Mackie Schillstone training B-Hops again. Schillstone has prepared B-Hop to handle Calzaghe's speed. Hopkins built a perfect corner with Freddie Roach, Nazim Richardson and John David Jackson. These elements combined to change my mind at the last minute.

Bernard Hopkins will win this weekend.
