zzzZZZZzzz I respect both fighters, but I don't like the discrediting some of the "boxing fans" do to Pacquiao's resume. The same can be done to Floyd's resume look:

Fought a bloated lightweight in Marquez and came in OVER the weight limit
Fought Hatton at a weight he was not best at
Fought Shane WAY later than he should have, pretty much shut him out a la pac/hoya

In addition, P4P ratings are subjective: the run that pac had between 2007 and now would have catapulted him above Floyd even if he did not retire and just had an extended ring absence, with only 2 fights since.

Overall, I think they're both equally deserving of the spot.

Yes he is. He came out of retirement and beat P4P #2 Marquez in all the rounds, and then came back and beat P4P #3 or 4 Mosley and won 10 rounds. Plus Mosley was WW Champ! SO HELL YEAH!

No way is he Number 1 until he gets some balls & risks his 0 against Pacman & not fighting old men like Shane. Floyd's a great boxer but i'am just sick of all his bull**** & now we know he'll never ever give us the fight we all want. Hatton/Marquez/Mosley don't get the top spot period!!!

IMO Pac still holds the spot by a hair.

Pac had the spot before PBF un-retired and until PBF beats Pac, Manny is the man at the top.

PBF's performance against Mosley was great but Pac demolished the man who had already defeated Mosley.

It's a good point - Mayweather neutralized one of the most offensively driven fighters in the sport. Mosley was literally scared to open up once he started tasting the counters. If we're judging each guys most recent fights, Mayweather was by far more impressive in his victory than Pacquiao.

Not for me, it was a great win for Floyd, it shows that he is a master boxer and no one can compete with him. Still Pac holds the 1# spot, the only way he moves down to #2 is if Floyd beats him. I just wish for the fight to happen.

I think you are misconstruing the meaning of pound for pound. Pound for pound is a direct comparison of what fighters have done with their respective competition at the time period, with weight being a constant. Pound for pound is not meant to create mythical matchups or compare two fighters H2H. This is visible when Floyd retired; he "vacated" the top P4P position to Pacquiao. :deal

Thus, people are just in saying that it is conceivable to say that Pacquiao still has a good basis for still being #1, due to the recent records.

:huh OK, so maybe its more credible to fight non ranked opponents?

    no, not a thing..........?

The top 2 welters in the world couldn't agree a deal. Floyd fought the next best guy in his division who also happened to be ranked (not just by Ring) as one of the best fighters in the world across any division.

Unless they are in or around your own weightclass, surely?

The best way for any fighter to DEMONSTRATE those abilities is to fight the best: Floyd has masterfully showcased his abilities in his last 2 fights aginst 2 of the 4 highest rated fighters on the planet (2 of 3, really given that he himself is one of the 4). Both in or around his weightclass.

Of course a p4p list is based on abilities, but without reference to who a fighter has fought the list would mean nothing. A win looking good against me would be as valuable as a tight UD against Pac.

To re-claim that spot you have to fight the guy currently there.

Or have a great win against a great opponent and hope the the current #1 fighter loses against anyone!
