dzindzuruk and pirog are completely different classes of fighters. one is coming off his defining victory to date, and has yet to defend. the other is a long reigning champ who is seen by most as the best 154 fighter today. martinez would be nuts turning down the dzindzuruk fight.
Angulo has to drive across many states to get to that fight, and was fatigued by fight time. Angulo could KO Cintron 10 out of 10 times, under nornal conditions.
I would much rather have Martinez vs Dzin than Martinez vs Lee! Maritnez is not picking on JUST a "smaller" guy either (Dzin does fight ONE division under Martinez but it will be like complaining if Pac/Berto/Mayweather pick on Bradley/Alexander/Khan fight :bbb) as Dzin is presumblaby the best at 154lbs and is no EASY FIGHT. Dzin is or should be consider the best at 154lbs but since he doesn't have a "name" or isn't a "draw" none of the other 154lbs mention him as a possible fight. Dzinziruk could be a GREAT name on Martinez resume or vice versa as this fight can go either way.
I think I read that HBO is trying to force this fight on Martinez. Honestly, I think Dzinziruk is good and his jab is awesome, but I think he loses a wide points decision.
How has Martinez started believing his own hype? Because he hasnt called out pirog? Martinez is the p4p fighter, Martinez is the middleweight champion, and Martinez is the bigger name. Its not Martinez's job to be calling out PIROG. And this is coming from a big supporter of him (pirog) Pirog, in all honesty, needs to do a bit more if him, or fans, wants the right to say hes getting ducked. Right now, its just common sense.... period. As for Dzinziruk, I think its a bit early to say that Martinez 'wont' fight him. And if Martinez decides not to, it also is not the end of the world and I wouldnt consider it a 'duck' at this stage eather. Dz also wouldnt hurt with a few more meaningful fights against his peers. Though this fight makes more sense then the pirog one, and it would be nice for Martinez to give Dz a shot as Dz IS a longstanding 154lb contender. However, Martinez has earned the right and the position at this stage, to challenge the likes of Mayweather, Pac, and to want to knock off the fighters with some names, like Cotto, and even Berto. I do think him vs Dz is a decent matchup though and if Martinez cant secure a fight with one of the bigger names, which he probably wont, I will still be looking forward to Martinez vs Dz. Just imo
Im tired of this. Martinez is the middlewight champ stop thinking he is a 154lber the last few middleweight kings feasted on the weight below when you have real tough guys like Sturm Pirog and Golovkin
Dzinziruk has a clause that says he makes at least 775k. hbo paying 1.5 mil for this fight is pretty hefty. thus if they pay 1.5 mil for fight...serg makes 750k. so you can understand why he doesn't want this fight. they are better off fighting andy lee for that much then slowly building his name up.
Yet Martinez said he was willing to fight all the guys below. Notice how half of them are old, green 154lbers, or have no more name recognition as Dzinziruk or Pirog. http://espn.go.com/sports/boxing/blog/_/name/rafael_dan/id/5270826 Miguel Cotto, Shane Mosley, Paul Williams, Alfredo Angulo, Kermit Cintron, Antonio Margarito, Vanes Martirosyan, Sergio Mora, Luis Collazo, Alfonso Gomez, Felix Sturm, Cory Spinks, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.-John Duddy fight. Angulo, Cintron but not Dzinziruk the champion Mora, Martyrosian, Collozo, Gomez, Sturm, Spinks - these guys are big names and/or draws? The "not enough of a name" excuse for dzinziruk and Pirog seems like a bull**** excuse considering his willingness to fight worse fighters with little to no fan base. How do you not classify that as a duck? Angulo was the WBO interm belt holder, Dzinziruk the real WBO Champion. Angulo avoided him even to the point that his promoter Shaw signed Sergiy just so he could ensure that his mexicunt Angulo didn't have to get embarrassed by Dzinziruk. and if Angulo did what he did in Mexico rather than the US he would be facing 10 years in prison. He's lucky he was a 2x illegal immigrant in the AA loving US instead of Mexico otherwise he'd be behind bars for a long ****ing time.
they need to come up/out with an undercard cuz if its not great im just instead gonna go to zab judah fight at the pru via tha path (subway)
Um. Magic. this fight is done. It's up on fightnews and sergio is already in training for it. I'm excited!
I would say Dzinziruk gets KO'd buy Martinez and Pirogs just to green. Course he would fight Martinez - that would be BIG money to him but they shouldn't do it.
