Almost every person I know shares their account with other family/friends.

Plus that’s Netflix. It appeals to all types of people with all tastes. Geeks, sports people, old people, young people, mums, dads, kids etc... they all have things to watch on Netflix.

DAZN is just for sports enthusiasts. Boxing is so niche. Sports like boxing and MMA probably have the highest views of illegal free streams.

    And

The point is they have about 120 mil subscribers so to say people don't pay to stream content is laughable.

People pay when they see value. Whether it's netflix Spotify,, iTunes etc etc if the content delivers then for the right price people will pay.

The vast majority of people do not have time or patience trying to find free streaming alternatives when they can pay under £10 for it all legit.

Free streams are mostly bad quality, there's always the possibility of the video getting shut down, in some places you will get prosecuted for illegal streaming. Most people just pay these 10 bucks, same as they do with Netflix. They can also stream TV series if they want illegaly but they choose to buy Netflix. It's just more convenient to download DAZN and most boxing fans will do it, especially in Europe.

But what sports are these 120m people subscribing to watch?

On the face of it this looks to me like a billionaire happy to lose and throw cash at boxing. Can’t see it being profitable with the proposed budget for each card.

Tbh if we get good fights from this deal that’s all I’m interested in.

Experienced streamers know where the quality streams lie and have back up streams ready with the click of a button.

That's the test. They need to provide content but before shutting it down how about waiting for them to launch and provide more information outside the matchroom deal

Most people are not experienced and they won't be. The vast majority knows you can watch for free but they don't know about good streams, they have worries about getting fined, they just want comfort and they don't feel like stealing. It's 10 bucks, that's why people don't feel the need to stream.

DAZN, Netflix, Spotify. The world is changing, this is the future.

Exactly. Why scramble around for free streams when you can pay the price of 3 Starbucks coffees and get no hassle netflix with the best streaming quality possible.

You’re underestimating the amount of people who stream.

To give you an example I’m a Rangers fan (Scottish football) and every single televised game has a number of free live streams on YouTube.

The average number of tv viewers for each game is about 200,000. And if you look at the viewing numbers on each YouTube live stream cumulatively it’s always 50k+ which is a huge chunk. And that’s just YoUTube. There are so many streaming platforms. That’s a huge number of the fanbase who are turning down the option of paying a subscription fee to BeinSports or BT in order to watch for free. Boxing will be the same.

Also on your first point, people share these streams on forums. So inexperienced streamers don’t even have to look for them. They just click on a forum thread and find them. If you look on Reddit which is the biggest online forum out there they have a subsection dedicated to boxing streams. Each fight has at least 10 quality streams posted under it.

Gonna stop talking about streaming now because I’ll probably get banned but my point is that an absolutely massive chunk of sports fans stream for free and will categorically not pay to watch no matter how big the sporting event is.

There may be more than just boxing available. Obviously what rights they can pick up for other sports is dependent on lots of factors but see what they're covering in other territories:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DAZN

Yet if you look at an online streaming service like Netflix, which has the content they want, then Millenials are willing to pay: https://www.statista.com/statistics/698020/netflix-subscription-by-age/

Get people the content they want, in a solid accessible platform at a reasonable price and they will pay for it. DAZN are looking to make themselves the Netflix for sports fans and if they have the right blend of content at the right price then the cord cutters and the cord nevers may just make them a major player.

After the dust settled I also thought the same (Box Nation). The only difference is Box Nation dont have that sort of money to spend. If Box Nation had 32 nights of top boxing for 10 pound a month, it would be a no brainer to buy it.

With respect, this is the situation now, but you'd be amazed at how quickly it can change.

It's not that long since people wouldn't pay for online music. Now look at iTunes, Amazon Music, Google, Spotify etc. Give people a quality service at a reasonable price and they'll quickly get tired of hunting for streams, risking viruses or legal letters (because hand in hand with these new services will be additional action aimed at ISPs) just to save a few pounds.

I have a netflix subscription which I think provides good value for money. I could probably find most if not all of that content online via 'alternative' providers but I don't, because I don't mind paying for good value. There will be some who never pay, but that's not really a problem for the content providers as long as they get mass appeal in the same way that Spotify or Netflix have done.

Streaming will definitely be the future of sports. Amazon last year bought the UK ATP rights for next year, outbidding SKY.

Where DAZN may struggle is if the other big streaming services move more aggressively into sports streaming before DAZN can establish a base of subscribers in the US. Fact is boxing is a minor sport compared to NFL and the NBA and if another service becomes the main streaming player for sports then DAZN and boxing might get relegated to a 2nd tier niche service.
