There you have it: TKO win over Brewer who beat K9 before and Guerrero since, draw vs. Molina who should've taken Chavez Jr's unbeaten record and schooled Cintron yesterday and a dominating win over Paul Williams coming from a KO loss. So how good Erislandy Lara is?
Having a lot of trouble with this myself. I think he's in rigondeaux land of looking a little different in terms of quality every time he fights. Do i think he can beat Cotto's ass? Maybe with some more work. I'd like to see him against Canelo, Molina II, K9, and maybe Dzinziruk if he's still game.
Potentially very, I want to see him against cotto, not going to happen I know but i think it would be a good fight
Lara's pretty good, you better be with all that amateur experience, you can tell the strength and conditoning coach really helped him in this fight. I would like to see him against either Cotto or Alvarez.
Obviously he was a very good amateur, but so far his transition to the professional ranks has not been impressive at all.
Not really sure how good he is, tbh. My opinion on the guy has seesawed over the last 2 fights as his performances have. I look forward to assessing him again up against another top 10 jmw.
he handed hatton his ass when brought in as a sparring partner cant remenber who for, it could of been pillow fists i think but aint sure, he is good and i believe he will win a world title at some point imho
Last night was a really weird night for boxing IMO. Most people thought Williams was going to have a fairly easy night against LAra based on his draw with Molina, but Molina goes ahead and beats Cintron who fought pretty even with Williams before the ring toss incident. Lara deserved the nod over Williams IMO though so what level are these guys really on? I think Williams was vastly overrated going into this fight and has been since he beat Margarito. Paul Williams is just a big punching bag who outlasts and overwhelms his opponent by throwing a ton of goofy shots. He wins with his mass more than his height and reach, absorbing shots standing right in front of guys. That was fine when he was a giant fighting old washed up has beens, but as hes stepped up fighting guys who can crack and box a little, those shots he used to walk through are not so easy to walk through.
Hard for me to say. I wasn't impressed at all vs Molina but based on what Molina has gone on to achieve that doesn't look anywhere near as bad now. It goes without saying that I thought he easily beat Williams and the Brewer win, which I always felt was underrated, looks even better now than it did at the time.
Erislandy Lara, Alfredo Angulo, Carlos Molina, Saul Alvarez are the next Light Middleweight greats. :good Erislandy Lara was a lot smarter in his last fight. He is going into prime and will put on a show.
Camp rumors went as far as he KO'd Hatton and was removed from sparring. One thing is for sure, it's been the most unkind few months of Lara's pro career getting that lackluster draw and this sameful loss, yet it was the most progressive. These two fights gave him tremendous amount of live exprerience plus for different reasons the note he has to give his maximum while staying smart in order to succeed. He leaves Atlantic City with a loss but with great press and valuable rounds, the opportunitues will came and he'll come back with a vengeance I predict that much with absolute certainty.
