So, I finally started boxing

    I know everyone has weaknesses, but all I'm trying to say is I'll TRY and work hard so I don't have any weaknesses. Obviously, it's an impossible goal, as perfection is impossible, but having these impossible goals always gives me something to push for, and it will help me never become 'satisfied' with being average.

    I don't see why people are hating on me for that. Why would I NOT want to be the strongest, fastest, most powerful, and in the best condition? Does any serious athlete PLAN on being slow, weak, and out of shape? Obviously not.

    I dunno, it just doesn't make sense to me that people think I'm an idiot for wanting to work my ass off to be the best. As Herm Edwards once said, "you play to win the game". I think boxing has been really fun so far, but I do not box solely for fun. Why even bother playing sports if you do not have high expectations for yourself, and want to, you know...win?

    I've never heard any coach, or trainer, or anyone tell me that a good work ethic and a strong will power is a bad attribute to have. I'm NOT cocky, AT ALL, and I think that's how people are perceiving me as. You guys are clearly misunderstanding what I'm trying to say, even though I'm making it pretty clear...

    I'm starting to think you are a troll. You've been told exactly what you should do and excatly what is wrong with what you are trying to do.

    You've been given great advice and yet continue to ignore it and spout the same bull**** 'about being the best you can be'. You take yourself far to ****ing seriously and you take your training far to seriously for the point you are at. You can't even throw a straight punch yet but you are talking about **** like this- "but I do not box solely for fun. Why even bother playing sports if you do not have high expectations for yourself, and want to, you know...win?"

    Get over yourself mate you've been training for a couple of months...

    How is 'great advice' telling me I should stop taking my training so seriously? Give me a SINGLE reason why taking training seriously is bad for you.

    Seriously mate I think you are one of the most stubborn ****ers on this forum and it sstarting to annoy most of us I think. Bogotazo already it explained it to you one page back-

    There is nothing wrong with taking training seriously but when you take it too seriously for the level you are at is when you have problems.

    Just a thought that we all have to remember is that Murdr is very new to boxing and young(19yo I think he said). Murdr is doing what I see every teenager do (professionally and at boxing gyms) which is look at everything and want it all at once. He wants to know what this boxing "thing" is all about and while it is very hard to discern anything over a post, is obviously very nervous. Whether or not we want to admit it, most of us wanted to look good the first time we hit the mitts, spar, etc. There is nothing wrong with that. He has high aspirations and that is great.

    Murdr, most of us are operating on the reality that achieving a decent skill set in boxing takes time and energy well placed. While most of us on here are not top pros, we have been in boxing gyms for several years and have adapted to the philosophy that almost any good boxing gym has, which is slow and steady wins the race. I can't tell you how many times that I heard from our boxing coach "boxing takes years to learn" and "all we've got in here is time." It set a precedence and a belief system on how to appropriately train boxing. For those who are in their mid 20s and like me mid 30s know, your attitude about how you view anything changes considerably from late teens to mid 20s.

    I remembered when I started training to be a mental health therapist(LPC), I wanted everything then and now, theories worked like this, if I did this it would work like that, and so forth. Now since I have a good 7 years in my private practice, I realized getting it all was not possible and experience is everything. But I had to go through that process.

    Boxing is very similar, and those who have been around the sport know how this works, you either adopt the "philosophy" of boxing and grow, or do it another way and burnout and or get your ego bruised. We all have to go through the experience process to understand what it is supposed to be.

    I think what is beginning to throw folks off is the overthinking and analysis. My advice Murdr is stop overthinking it, train hard but smart and EFFICIENTLY, and enjoy what you are doing. Good luck.:good

    But all I'm saying is I'm acknowledging that I'm not even good at boxing yet. I'm not stupid, I know I have to start somewhere. I'm saying EVENTUALLY I want to become a great boxer. I hope people don't think that I think I'm already there...

    Now this is what I'd constitute as good advice.

    dude just shut up nobody wants to hear you preach about hard work. if you truly were dedicated u wouldnt be 50 lbs overweight now STFU and go hit the gym

    Taking training seriously is bad for you when your trying to do so many things at the same time that you end up failing to achieve any of them, get frustrated that you still suck and quit.

    Focus on learning to punch with correct form and then go from there.

    Listen mate just shut up, everyone is tired of you talking like you are some boxing expert because you just joined a gym.

    I'd bet my house Will knows a hell of a lot more about boxing than you do. You've not even sparred or hit the pads and he doesn't know what he's talking about? I'd say its you who doesn't know what they are talking about.

    Dedication and drive to learn is fine but when you come in here and ignore all advice given despite not even being able to throw straight punches is when you are taking the ****.

    Contrary to what you seem to think you don't know best and would do well do heed the advice given by Bogotazo, Lefty and others.
