And I must say that I'm quite disappointed. The way people are talking on here about moving Silva up to the no. 1 p4p spot, I was expecting something really spectacular, but what I saw was a guy with no chin and no heart giving up after getting pot-shotted with a few jabs. I mean WTF?? And people are trying to discredit Fedors win over Arlovski by saying that the guy has no chin, but at least Arlovski took a decent shot to the chin by Fedor, who had the skill and timing to land a real shot against a vicious striker attempting a knee-kick that would have put anyone out of the game if it had landed. What Griffin did was just pathetic. No effort, no force, just mindless non-stop come-forward brawling atsch. Silva is a great fighter and all, but I would attribute the ease of that win to the one-dimensional strategy of Griffin. Your thoughts?
how bout a silva gives you a few jabs and we see if your standing, punches are not about swinging madly from a distance its also about timing connecting at the right time generating the most force when your striking and the other person is coming towards you(i.e. fedor alovski) its just silva made it look more brilliant with his movement
Arlovski had a decent gameplan though. Arlovski might have done very well in that fight, if Fedor hadn't had those godlike reflexes. I'm fully aware that both Silva and Griffin would easily kick my arse, but that's not really the point, is it? I expect more from a top-level fighter than just coming forward, throwing wild punches like any drunken ****** does downtown on a friday night.
It was reasonably well timed and he caught him off balance-but it didn't seem a KO punch. Silva was mid step, moving back and so didn't seem to get that much power into the blow.
I wouldn't rate Griffin as a top level fighter. You can put a good fighter against a top level fighter. that that top level fighter can make the good fighter look like a noob. silva vs griffin was a prime example
i get that but forrest had been decked and hurt a couple times already so you gotta think his punch resistance was pretty crappy at that point,we know forrest is not the most smartest of fighters and i think a silva goaded him into a stand up war and also it wasent as though that was the 1st major blow landed
He's a former UFC LHW champ, so he should be ranked as top level, even if he has fallen off a bit. He definitely should have the experience to know that you don't try the same approach again and again when it continues to fail.
Yup Griffin is not a top level fighter, cant argue with that..makes the UFC look bad to have had a champion like that. I just dont want to here that Rampage isnt a bum then, because Griffin beat Rampage and if a low level fighter beats you, then what are you? a bum. And please, no styles makes fight argument BS.
Well when you consider he dislocated his jaw early in the fight, it explains a lot of it. Although he didn't look like it in that fight, Forrest is a very good fighter, he won the LHW belt, even if you think he didn't he still went 5 close rounds for it. Silva just looked really good, against a guy with a guy who is a very tough test in general, if not for Silva stylistically.
Exactly, people just want to pick on something..You cannot pick on Forrest because if you do..then youre going to need to explain Rampage and Shogun Silva is great! Period. He made everyone his bitches, Nate, Hendo, Franklin..theyre all bad match ups stylistically
Styles do make fights. However, I agree with everything else you said. Silva is just great. In fact, he looks so good that people try to rationalize it by saying the person he's fighting sucks. But this same person didn't suck against Rampage nor Shogun. Silva is just in a league of his own at the moment.
Like Griffin said, Silva makes good fighters look bad. He just happened to be another Franklin. Griffin is a good fighter. You don't beat bad men like Rampage and Rua if you are not a good fighter.
I agree, Griffin, was terrible. He did not look like the Forrest Griffin that fought Tito Ortiz, Shogun Rua and Rampage Jackson. In the countdown to UFC 101 on SpikeTv.... Forrest admitted that after winning the Lt. Heavyweight title, he had no clue what to do next. Winning the belt was his goal, and by the looks of the Silva fight.... it must be true. I like Griffin, and I hope he bounces back. With Ortiz coming back.... how about Oritz (vs) Griffin II?:rasta
shogun was coming back from two surgeries and was severely undertrained and over confident, rampage is slightly past it, he beat a past it chuck, and past it hendo who was taken to a close one by franklin, i think that explains the 2 wins and why forrest didnt suck, rampage is not an intelligent fighter and shogun aint miles ahead either, sat proved how overrated the division is
