There's 2 things I wanted to comment on just from watching the fight. 1. Very underrated performance. Buddy looked great here against a legit foe while he was coming up in weight. 2. How great is it to hear Mike Tyson on commentary? I would love to hear him in the booth these days, he's incredibly knowledgeable and provides real entertaining analysis throughout the fight. Kind of a random thread I know but hey, the classics slow and it's something to discuss :good:hat [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a92LXrf0s6c&feature=channel_video_title[/ame]
Buddy did everything right that night. Career performance from him. I will note that Brown was already starting to devolve as a fighter by this point.
McGirt was in the zone and he gave a masterclass. It was one of the few times he wasn't struggling with that cronic shoulder problem. This was actually a very even fight on paper. Simon Brown was in the top 10 P4P list, so he wasn't washed up or anything, he was a champ and would go on to stop Terry Norris. It's just that those 2 wars with Tyrone Trice and epic against good friend Maurice Blocker had put some miles on his clock. Even without that though Buddy would've schooled him, he just had a bad style for Simon. Vintage technical performance from McGirt and a few more like that and he would've been considered a great or at least a HOFer.
Buddy was a fantastic technician. If you couldn't force him to fight at a high pace you were in for hell. If he had world class stamina he would have been a great fighter. Even without a fully functioning left.
