Any rehaydration clause is NOT enforceable by ANY athletic commission. Do you know when the weigh in for sanctioned fights occur? It use to be the day of the fight but due to the health risks the sport of boxing as a whole incorporated weigh ins 24 hours before the actual fight. Why?.... Well.... Fighters lose a lot of nutrients and minerals as they "sweat off" excess water weight. They deplete their bodies of nutrients and minerals that allow them to perform at their highest level which is why they need the 24 hours to rehydrate in order to replenish what a lot of fighters lose whenever they cut weight. A rehydration clause would actually go AGAINST what EVERY sanctioning body who oversees the safety and well being of athletes within their state are trying to enforce... which is the health and safety of their combatants. There have been NO evidence or proof that any promoter would risk their license by going over the commissions head to stipulate a "re-hydration clause". If you find something out there then you might have a something that could make you a little money if you provide to the right people. But chances are you won't find anything because re-hydration clauses are not enforceable. Too many risks legally, financially and puts the health of the fighters at risk.
He's fought at both 147 and 154.....well... he was with in the limit. I think some fans don't understand that ALL weight classes have a MAX and a MIN in terms of what they can weigh. For instance. The welter weight limit is between 140.1 to 147.... and the Jr MW limit is between 147.1 to 154. A lot of fighters will come in under the division limit but it's still considered a Welter weight or a Jr MW fight. Floyd has never fought at the Jr MW limit although he has a title at that weight.... Floyd also comes in UNDER the welter weight limit 99% of the time... yet he is still a welter weight champion. If PAC is a fraud then there's a LONG line of people who would love to be a "FRAUD".... well.... only if they're using your special definition of the word.
He's fought at 147 and 154 but he never won titles there he won his 147 title fighting cotto at a catchweight of 145 and he fought margarito for a bs title at 154 but made it a catchweight fight of 150. It's the opponent who is affected by the catchweight not pac. It doesn't effect pac and it actually a good thing for him because his opponents have to lose more weight and can't rehydrate as high after the weigh in so they are not at there best weight. Floyd doesn't not make his opponents lose weight he lets them do what they normal do so they can like they normally do and be at there very best.
A catch weight fight is still within the limits of a designated division. The catch weight doesn't necessarily affect PAC or the opponent... Not if they are reaching their weight goals from a scientific and intelligent approach.....within reason of course. You wouldn't expect Floyd to drop down to 135 where JMM was champ back when they fought because that would be 2 weight classes. But the same can be said on the opposite side of this coin....that a smaller man who has to JUMP UP 2 or 1 whole division to fight a BIGGER man will be hindered by not only the added muscle and weight but also would be at a disadvantage in all physical dimensions...height, reach and weight. It's funny how Armstrong and Leonard were smaller men going up to fight bigger men got praise but with PAC doing the exact same thing he's getting criticized. Not by the MASSES..... but by a very special group who are hell bent on not giving this man any credit for his accomplishments. And by the way..... there are no rehydration clause in place anywhere in the world under any governing body or athletic commissions that sanction any sports where there are 24 hour weigh-ins. Floyd has fought at a catch weight before..... he didn't live up to his end of his original contracted weight but he made sure JMM did. Sure Floyd was fighting the smaller man but who cares.
difference is pac's is brining his opponents physical peak down instead of facing them at there best which is the whole point of moving up and testing yourself. We know pac will be them skill for skill but can he beat them with there power advantage and at there peak weight. Who know's because he never lets them fight at there preferred weight. It makes the challenge less.
You could spin that scenario for any catch weight fight.... For the bigger guy moving down in weight they can say he's drained or weakened. For the smaller guy you could say he's fighting outside of his natural weight class against men who will hold too many physical advantages to over come. The body isn't something you can just push and not expect to get "push-back". For a fighter to acclimate to a NEW weight and adjust to more muscle he has to gradually increase which is one reason why catch weights happen. They only fight PAC had at a catch weight at Welter was Cotto. Now he's established and all of his fights will be without catch weights. When he moved up to Jr MW for the first time he took a catch weight fight because he was moving up for the first time to that division and made it a catch weight fight. PAC has a LOT of fights and only 2 catch weight fights... so you're telling me that he NEVER lets his opponents fight at their best weights?:think That's interesting.... please explain how you come to that conclusion. Marg and Cotto aren't even the BEST names on Manny's resume. They're very good wins but he has some real "G's" on his ledger that solidifies his greatness..... he couldn't have gotten to this level if he ONLY had Marg and Cotto in the "Win column".
112- Only carried the title for 7 months before losing it via KO. 122- Picked up the title in June, should have technically lost it in November to Sanchez...Only 5 months. 130- Picked up title with GIFT win against Marquez. 135- Picked up title against the WEAKEST LW, who had obtained his title from a controversial win. 140- IBO belt against Hatton who had previously be KTFO and nearly KTFO by a shot Lazcano. 147- Fought for the WW title at 145...Cotto previously KTFO too FFS. 154- Fought for the WW title at 150...Margarito previously KTFO too FFS. What a ****ing disgrace. If this isn't Bob Arum's greatest work...I don't know what is.
