So, is McGuigan right? Is Froch the best SMW in the world, save Calzaghe?

Pretty solid list, agree with it for the most part

I rate Mundine a bit higher, and Lacy is a bit high, judging by his recent outings

Not an exact list. They are grouped together because until they actually face each other we can only hypothesise who would beat who.

He punches hard but i'm not convinced by his hand speed or his defense. until he steps in with some of the top guys in his division then we will be able to see how good Froch really is.

I like Froch a bit. Its too EARLY to declare him, Bute, or Inkin the best save Calzaghe. Clearly thats the pool of undefeated SMW's are climbing to a shot at the top.

Kessler, Mundine, Lacy, and Miranda should cross paths with some in the above group. Guys like Zuniga, Green and Andrade are also in the mix.

I like Froch too. He comes to batter the other guy. He is aggressive, and keeps coming at you. He can take a great punch and he has very heavy hands. But until he fights a Top 20 opponent, it's impossible to know how good he is, I think. A fighter with his punch, chin and aggressiveness will always look impressive against C level fighters, but...how will he do against B- and B level fighters who don't get drafted at the last minute?

I agree. His time is very near to a quality opponent and we'll find out.

Barry talks a lot of the brown stuff; its like oxygen to him, in-out-in-out.

Froch is there or there's about, but you shouldn't talk in cast-iron predictions with an untested guy.

McGuigan talking bollocks again. Froch has done about as much for someone to call himself the best SMW in the world, as BM has done to earn his right in the HoF. I kinda like Froch but he has done nothing yet. He needs a challenge and should either get Hennessy to stump up the cash for a decent opponent or go to the states and look for fights against Green, Andrade, Taylor, Bute, Lacy etc. WBC mandatory means **** all considering the opponents he's beaten to get it.

It's funny because McGuigan compared him with fighters who, for better or for worse, have been in against Top 10 competition, nevermind Top 20 - which Froch hasn't yet done, and he still found them lacking compared to Froch. This is a bit like that argument that Gamboa would KO Pacquiao because - "well...look at him blow all those guys out of the water so impressively; surely, he'll do that to Pac too!!!"

McGuigan could have said: "yeah, I think Froch is ready to take on the best in the division now; I think he has a good chance against Kessler" etc. but he decided to go much further than that...I think, unneccessarily, and he said it 3 times, not just once, as a slip of the tongue; he really BELIEVES it! It struck a discordant note with what Duke Mckenzie said: that Froch had still not PROVEN he was clearly a world class fighter...:huh

Yep, pure bull****. What did Froch show us tonight or in any of his previous outings that he has what it takes to be a world class boxer? Little to nothing. It's not his fault his opponents were pulling out left right and centre but he really needs to get a move on. McGuigan needs a reality check and stop trying to hype fighters for no reason. We get enough of that **** with Khan.

I had to chuckle when I heard McGuigan and Rosenthal say that Froch was being avoided by everyone! (Couldn't forget that Froch had the chance to fight Bute in the IBF eliminator but decided to fight Tatevosyan instead...)

As far as I'm concerned, Inkin is the only one that could be accused of having avoided him, but, once you start thinking things through you realise that if he had wanted to avoid Froch, he'd not have agreed to take part in the WBC eliminator against him in the first place - he was clearly very unlucky with injuries/illness. As for the others...well, Froch's had quite a few opponents brought in at the last moment, but why should Top 20 fighters agree to fight him at a couple of days' notice?!:huh

I'd rate Bute and Kessler over him right now. Other then the Banks fight Miranda is unproven at Super middle so I can't make a call but my feeling is that Froch would lose by TKO cause he looks too hitable. We'll see how JT does at the wieght as well but my feeling is that the JT that last fought Pavlik is better then this guy too. So in short I would rate two guys Bute and Kessler over him and two potentials. But he looks pretty good.

They shouldn't and obviously wouldn't. But what was he to do with Inkin, postpone it again? Froch needed a fight to get rid of any ringrust and keep his name active. But he needs a top 10, not 20, opponent. Inkin is the obvious choice but there are other fighters he could approach. He also needs to rid himself of any Calzaghe aspirations. NOT GOING TO HAPPEN!! Just get the fights that matter. We know he's good, but we all want to see just how good he is, and 38 year old 15 fight Poles, aren't going to show us that.

No...he should forget all about Inkin. The guy's a liability and has left him in a pickle! It was right that he fight a tune-up. Otherwise, the ring-rust would have set in and he'd have let ITV and Showtime down.

The big test, though, HAS to come in summer, for the vacated title. I don't thin the winner of Pascal v. Zuniga is clearly Top 10, though. Still, think it's a good test and with Calzaghe out, it's a decent opponent in a vacant belt fight. Good enough for now and quite a step up for Froch, so I'd be happy with that, although, of course, I'd much rather prefer Kessler.
