After receiving over a dozen NCAA Division I football scholarship offers, Seth Mitchell decided to attend Michigan State University. As a redshirt sophomore, Mitchell played middle linebacker and was second on his team in tackles with 103. The same year, he led the Spartans in conference play with 10.6 tackles a game. He recorded his career-high 17 tackles while playing against Ohio State. Mitchell was forced to hang up his cleats for good in 2005, due to injury. He continued his education, and graduated from Michigan State with a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice and Security Management. His nickname, "Mayhem," was given to him by his football teammate at Michigan State, Jason Teague....

so is this the american that people on here would say where are all the american Hw's and the excuse was "they are playing other sports" ....if so do you really think this dude can even stand a chance to even win a round against the Uk giants??? I know his football ended because of injury ....or he prob. would of ended up in the NFL...... so now I guess we will see if that is all true because Wlad wants a peice of this dude ...but will he take the fight ....I don't think so ....

    You missed the point entirely.

And you kind of proved the arguement you're refuting. If an NFL reject who's only boxed a few years now, can get the attention of your God, what do you think would happen if a bunch of the good ones had decided much earlier to go to boxing isntead?

    NO.

He went into Football first, not boxing.

The argument is INSTEAD of going into Football when they are YOUNG, they "may" have done something in Boxing had the done the same.

Say, go into boxing at 10-13 years of age instead of Football.

And then you have to see who comes out of the pool.

Seth Mitchel is in a very small pool. And that pool, in this case, is specific to those that played Football First, then decided to go into boxing very late for boxing standards.

Now you take the pool of athletes that are currently in the NBA and NFL, and even those that didn't make it but spent years trying to...that's a huge pool to pull a number of possible future HW Boxers................IF they had Chose to Box in their youth and stuck with it instead of going into other sports.

By the way, if Wlad was born in the USA, he would have more likely been playing Football and or Basketball while going to Stanford

Seth Mitchell is clear evidence that the "American heavyweights are playing football" theory is true.

Why is Seth Mitchell boxing? Because he broke his knee. Boxing is plan B.

So we pluck one arbitrary college linebacker from football because he had a career-ending knee injury, plop him into the professional boxing ranks at the age of 25 and, voila, he's a few months from a title shot.

How many other linebackers could do the same thing (and do it much, much better than Seth)? You do the math. The math is really, really easy.

this does not mean they could beat either brother in a fight know matter how long they boxed ....you could turn it around and say some of the boxers now could have played in the NFL ... but here they are getting their asses kicked after years and years of boxing

    Who are we talking about?

    Wlad?
Because if it is Wlad, of course he does. But the life he was born into has led him down this path. If he were born in the USA, his life path may have been different. I say it would have been different. Especially since wasn't he put into a boxing academy when he was young?
If in the States, when his parents saw that you can get FULL Scholarships to College to play Basketball and Football, his parents would most likely encourage that path.
Unlike Vitali, which Wlad admits he followed, Wlad was big into fighting.

As far as Seth, he loved Football. And it doesn't matter what you love, it doesn't make you a good "lover." :D

Your best chances to reach your potential is to start young. Train yourself Mentally, Physically, and Technically all through your growth periods to build your body specific to its future career/life. That's why Floyd is so damn good.
It's much harder to start late. Much harder.

And again, Seth is still in a very small pool. It's not like he was part of a huge pool of talent and he came out on top.

An example you could use is Buster Douglas. He started playing many sports when young, and one of those sports was Boxing. Now he wasn't devoted to boxing since his mind was on the others. But he did have a Father that was a boxer and he did train often enough to gain that ability you need to be a top level fighter. He just didn't have the focus throughout because he wasn't in love with it. But when he did get his act together, for a brief period, he showed what he could do.
But again, Buster grew up with boxing in his blood and trained for it when he was young and growing (while attending to other sports).

We have an arbitrary person from college football named Seth Mitchell. He shatters his knees, can't play football anymore. He picks up gloves at 25 and by 29 he's a contender.

I repeat, you do the math.

Seth Mitchel is already a bit special to get where he is right now.

there is a of ex footballers that did not and will not get to Seth's position

    ready for title fight

I'm ignoring the main thread topic because the question has been answered very well above by other posters

The current crop of American boxers are in a small pool. Not many big guys are going into gyms to box. They are going onto the football field or the court to play b-ball.

If you have size and talent, your heading off to more valuable sports like Football and Basketball. Sports that if you don't make it pro, you at least can get yourself a free college education (if you are good enough). Sports where there are better Teachers teaching the sport as well. Not many left in boxing. And of course, when training, you want to be practicing with and against other high valued people so you can get better. Beating the crap out of some fat slob who comes into the gym because he is trying to lose weight or sucked at other sports isn't valuable in your production to become better. That's what the Old Generations had over today's and that's in most divisions. Bigger Pool of Athletes = better quality and how much more you can improve with time.

Understand? the pool size to pick from is different.

the only thing I wouldn't join in on is saying so and so would be Champion had he born into and picked boxing. We just don't know who comes out of the pool.

Mitchell is a KO waiting to happen. He's just another Travis Walker, who was also a football player.

Either Klitschko would easily destroy Mitchell.
