The best American football players would seemingly also be the best at every other sport if we are to believe the argument that all of the best American HW's are in the NFL.

Yes. Although I think he'd fall short vs Vitali today and Wlad for another 2 yrs. But if he can take his time, continue fighting tougher hogher Clevel and Blevel guys, UNLIKE most contenders who simply fight Clevel guys exclusively, he can gain the experience necessary to take out a retiring Vitali or an aging Wlad.

Do I think it will happen, NO. But it could, especially if he goes across the lake and signs on with Sauerland. He'd get a ton of KO wins through their stable, big money fights and could win the EBU and EBA titles from Pulev/Dimi or Ustinov if he'd simply relocate.:think

Most of the Big Genetic Freaks go into Football. The other sport is Basketball.

    Just the way it is.

Out of the vast pool of athletes that made it to the NFL/NBA (or didn't because they weren't good enough for those two sports)...as far as them being able to be World Class fighters if they had taken up boxing when they were young instead of these other two sports...we don't know. Small percentage but that's still a lot.

You go where there is opportunity. You go where it is popular. That's not in boxing anymore. Hasn't been in a long time.

And this isn't just an American argument as to where USA HW athletes have gone. Others have said it.

The current crop of "Athletes" in HW boxing that are from America are pitiful compared. Not only do they not compare athletically, but from a "technical" stand-point...comparing them to previous generations of boxers or even trying to compare levels for different sports and how "schooled" they are...it doesn't compare.

I just don't see it. Wlad who have to seriously decline.

Wlad has a well schooled amateur background as well as a long Pro boxing career at the highest level.

Wlad is Mentally, Physically, Technically, and Spiritually in-line with Boxing from an early age and matured through the years to be the fighter he is today.

How is Seth going to make that up starting so late?

Maybe he can. I don't know. It happens. Sometimes the well schooled fighter for one reason or the other doesn't win against certain fighters. But the odds aren't in his favor.

    Punchers chance at this point.

He's got a punchers chance right now.

What Im talking about is if he moved to Europe, signed with Suaerland or one of the other big Euro promoters, even K2 and fought against the Blevel guys over there, the bigger ones. We all know he'd mow down Dimitrenko inside a rd or two, and how would Ustinov fare. Not much better IMO.
He could fight all the big Euro guys and gain the exp necessary to fight the biggest and best guys and potentially find a way to make his punchers chance a REALITY.

That's not likely to happen though since he'll probably conitnue fighting the Witherspoons and McCalls and those types while he waits for a payday or the retirement of the K2.:-(

Boxing always has and always will be a fringe sport due to the fact that most people don't like the idea of being punched in the head for a living.
A great athlete does not automatically make a great boxer. The proper motivation and mental toughness has to be there, not to mention the ability to take a punch.

    Look at Eddie Chambers, guys.

Do you really think he is genetically the toughest and most gifted guy in America? Do you think he is the strongest, fastest, most fleet-footed of all the athletes you see today in America?

Look at his little pudgy ass! And this is who we call the best American Heavyweight. Now compare his overall athleticism to the majority of Pro (and College) footballl and basketball players.

If only a small fraction of the genetically-gifted and motivated athletic guys in America took up boxing as a first love, then you would definitely see a different heavyweight landscape.

You don't have to believe it or like it. That's just how it is. Yu have to actually live here to understand. Go to any high school with a supreme athletic program and see how many kids even know who Miguel Cotto, Antonio Margarito, Andre Berto, and Andre Ward are. Probably 2 at most. You tell a random kid under 18 to name 5 boxers and you'll get Tyson, Ali, Floyd, Pac, and Rocky Balboa. I guarantee you no more than 2 out of 100 even know who Roy Jones is. They don't have time for boxing with AAU and ****. Sadly, boxing is less popular than Tennis, Golf, and yes... MMA to young kids.

I know other sports are more popular in other countries, but I don't think it's as "fringe" as it is here in the US.

Seth Mitchell took up boxing because he broke his knees. Eddie Chambers took it up because he got cut from his high school football team. They told him, point blank, "you're too chubby, Eddie, maybe next year. Golf would suit your body type and level of athletic ability. Try that."

Was Larry Holmes the most genetically gifted guy in America? Sonny Liston? They don't seem like prototypical American football players to me.
What about Frazier and Foreman, neither was very athletic, I can't see them making it as a running back or wide receiver in the NFL.
I can't think of many former champions that fit the profile of an NFL athlete or NBA star. Holyfield and Tyson maybe, but the NBA/NFL argument is tired and rediculous.

    Good point.

And now look at Chris Arreola. Imagine him trying out for an NFL football team. Once you stop ROTFLMAO, you can continue with this thread.....
