Hrgovic fought Zumbano Love in his pro debut a fighter who in his previous fight fought a 33-1 Alexander Ustinov and in his fight before that one fought a 16-0 Otto Wallin and just under 2 years earlier fought a 25-0 Andy Ruiz Jr. and an 11-0 AJ

He fought a 6-0 Pavel Sour in his 2nd pro fight, a fighter who just fought a 23-3 Hughie Fury last night and in his previous fight fought a 19-0 Jermaine Franklin

Hrgovic fought Tom Little in his third pro outing, a fighter who fought a 7-0 Dubois in his following fight and a 22-6 David Price in his one after that

Sean Turner was up next, a fighter who fought a 30-1 Arnold Gjergjaj in his previous fight and an 12-0 Nathan Gorman in his next fight after facing Hrgovic

Hrgovic fought an undefeated Mexican in his next outing albeit one who'd never fought anyone

Up next for Hrgovic was Amir Mansour who whilst an OAP was good enough to face an 11-0 Sergey Kuzmin and a 31-1 Travis Kauffman the previous year, Breazeale and Gerald Washington the year prior to that one both of whom were 16-0, and an 8-0 Ajagba the following year after Hrgovic beat him

Then in his 7th fight Hrgovic fought Kevin Johnson who fought a 30-1 Andy Ruiz 5 months earlier, an 8-0 Dubois a few months later, a 24-1 Pulev the previous year, and the subsequent year after facing Hrgovic he fought a 15-0 Nathan Gorman, a 13-1 Bakole, and a 12-0 Oleksandr Zakhozhyi

Then in his next fight Hrgovic fought a 15-1 Greg Corbin who'd fought a 25-2 Charles Martin in his previous fight

Up next was Mario Heredia who was coming off a win over Samuel Peter albeit he was shot. A few years earlier Heredia had fought a 28-3 Andrey Federsov, a 13-0 LaRon Mitchel and the year prior to facing Hrgovic he fought a 8-0 George Arias

In Hrgovic's 10th fight he fought Eric Molina

And now he's fighting Jerry Forrest who many feel was robbed last year against a 18-0 Jermaine Franklin

People are complaining about the level of opposition of a 10-0 prospect??

I'm glad they didn't take the Bakole fight because the later is very high risk low reward and unlike Hrgovic he isn't ranked in the top 15 by any of the major sanctioning bodies and if Hrgovic beats him many will just say that Bakole was already exposed by a CW. That's good management. Hrgovic has called out Chisora and numerous other top HWs and if you think he's scared of Bakole you're a moron.

There's nothing wrong with the level of Hrgovic's opposition and we will be seeing him in against world class and highly ranked opponents very soon, most likely this year.

True Hunter turned out to be good, he's a quality heavyweight who I favoured to beat Bakole when they fought, so no shame in that, but how thin Forrest's record is suggests that he isn't any kind of threat. But of course a record can be deceptive, but have you watched him fight? He's undersized at 6'1" and poses no threat.

Bakole in comparison has beaten recognisable names like Johnson and Wach who aren't great but levels above anyone Forrest has beaten.

True most novices are not looking to fight guys who are threats, but Hrgovic already beat Mansour and Molina, so it's not like he hasn't previously stepped up. So why take a pointless fight now when he has momentum? I don't even see Bakole as that big a threat, for me it's an easy win for Hrgovic. Which is partly why I was critical. It's a choice that doesn't make sense when he has a better option.

True not many 10 fight novices take many risks but look and Joyce and Dubois in comparison. Both taking a risk early in their careers. Winner will likely have more doors open for them, while Joyce can't waste time due to age, Dubois is even younger than Hrgovic but he's willing to take the risk in a fight he could genuinely lose. But Hrgovic doesn't want to take a less risky fight vs Bakole?

Win or lose I think both Dubois and Joyce could gain from taking this fight as long as it's competitive. Look at Joshua/Whyte, look where they both are now as PPV attractions. Same with Fury/Chisora, they both became known heavies from the first fight and grew to be better fighters and fight on PPV main attractions to this day.

A loss doesn't mean the end especially for a young heavy like Hrgovic, the danger is that if he keeps fighting nobodies and doesn't step up soon enough is that he becomes an after thought in the division, while guys who are taking risks surpass him and get more opportunities. Being from a nation without a big boxing fan base means he has to work doubly hard to be noticed. Opportunities may not just open up for him like other fighters who have big national followings and can draw. Right now he's thought of highly but as I said he could quickly be relegated to just another prospect while others get offered the meaningful fights. So I say take the opportunities when they come, because they may not come again.

Hrgovic-Bakole was scheduled to take place on 28.03.2020 in London at the Usyk-Chisora meeting and Hrgovic said Yes, I am ready. The problem occurred when that fight was postponed due to Usyk's injury. The new term in May did not suit Hrgovic as he intends to go to the world qualifiers for the Olympics in Paris in May. That is why Hrgovic was transferred to the USA on April 17th. They did not manage to find a better opponent in the short term. We will probably watch Hrgovic-Bakole at the end of the summer or some other quality opponent. It's no secret that Hrgovic told Hearn that he was ready for everybody right away, including the attack on the title.
