thats a typical UFC fanboy statement, i bet your one of those people who start making weird hand signals to the camera at UFC events whilst shouting woo hoo as limited as kimbo is he is from the streets and he is cool in my eyes, however if i see him lurking in my hallway at two in the morning im getting my samurai sword on that one
This could be really good for the shows ratings I never watched TUF but I'm definately going to check it out this year because it will be interesting to see if Kimbo gets to compete in the UFC it was a good idea to have heavyweights I hope we get to see Kimbo against a real mixed martial artist and see how he looks after that devistating loss
Kimbo wont be able to compete in the UFC. Dana knows this thats why he was running his mouth when Kimbo was in EliteXC. But hey he gets the best of both worlds here. Kimbo for free and a whole load of GREAT PR for his organisation. His a promoter first a fan a distant second.
I agree with you I dont think he can compete on the level of the elites like a Frank Mir or a Mirko FIllopovic but it will make for interesting television. I think Kimbo has a lot to prove and a lot to work on before he thinks of fighting top tier fighters in the UFC or even getting an opportunity to fight in the UFC but Dana White made a good decision to bring in Kimbo its the best way to promote the UFC heavyweight division and a good way to pretty much expose Kimbo Slice
Cos he didn't come into MMA and just start punching or having some mindless street fight. He was trained by a quality fighter in Rutten and in his fights it is clear he has a number of dimensions. He did what a former UFC champ didn't. Even now, he hasn't just quit or try and make some money off his name. He has thrown himself into the toughest organisation at the moment - the UFC. This is how it is so clear.
weird....he got knocked out by a guy who couldnt win the Ultimate Fighter, now he's gonna be on the Ultimate Fighter....
Kimbo has a very real chance at making it to the UFC now. He doesn't have to win TUF to make it. He has to look marketable. Kimbo may not be the real deal as an mma prospect, buy Kimbo is a real athlete. He will have impressive training footage. Rumor has it that he'll be on until the middle of the show before he has to fight. If they're going to this much trouble to keep him around, I bet he gets matched with the easiest foe possible when he does fight. I'm willing to bet that finalist or not, Kimbo Slice fights at the TUF finale.
Scraping the barrel though isnt it. Is the UFC interested in legitimacy? As thats clearly not the case when he's willing to allow a guy like Kimbo into his organisation. Even if Kimbo does make it he'll get smoked. Dana knows that. This is nothing more than a PR gamble.
Every sport needs contestants for the contenders and the elite to emerge from. Kimbo Slice defeated Tank Abbott convincingly and Carl Thompson controversially. That carves out a certain placement for him. Abbott and Thompson are still getting fights, because new fighters need someone that isn't considered to be one of the world's best to compete against and emerge from. Lesnar may not ever have to worry about fighting Kimbo Slice, but he may have to worry about someone that defeats Kimbo. Kimbo getting on TUF and maybe fighting in the UFC are not unethical practices by a promotional company. This is nowhere near putting Kimbo on prime time television, and trying to establish him as the face of mma.
But using EliteXC's marketting ploy is ok when Dana point blank said Kimbo was a bum? This is about economics nothing more or less. Lets not try to kid ourselves otherwise. Fact is Kimbo is a nobody but Dana changed his stance because he realised his organisation could make some nice money of him. Surprise surprise.
