Mikkel Kessler - the man to beat at 168. Last 2 fights were against no-hopers but he did exactly what a top fighter does to no-hopers and that's beat them convincingly. Kessler's a beast anyway you cut it. If I could construct a fighter Kessler would be the prototype.

Mundine doesn't even factor into the equation at 168. The guy lost to Manny Siaca for crying out loud. In between his notable fights the guy fights the biggest no-names one has never heard of.

Carl Froch - still needs to win his title before we talk about who he defends it against. If he doesn't beat Pascal that would be horribly disappointing. He should stop Pascal and Taylor's his mandatory so he either has to fight Taylor, hope Taylor takes on someone else and loses, or vacate the belt he hasn't won yet.

Lucian Bute is a very good fighter. Yes, the ending of the Andrade fight was dodgy but don't be fooled. Andrade's one of those grinders that can give anyone a hard night. Just shows you how good Kessler is. Lucian definitely has the goods and last I checked, still has his belt.

Dirrell's win over Oganov was ok and he'll factor into things sooner or later. The Stevens fight is further in the rear-view mirror. Dirrell can fight and he'll show it. He moved up in the WBO's rankings so maybe he can get a shot at Inkin in the near future.

Jermain Taylor - kicked off his campaign at 168 with a nice win over a guy who had one foot out the door but was still dangerous at all times. His punches were crisp and he looked to be comfortable in the ring. Can he be a force at 168? Why not fight Kessler in the States and find out?

Bika - no title belts in his future but can win the Mustafa Hamsho award for being a rough-and-tumble gatekeeper. The ceiling at 168 is too high. Could you picture him beating a guy like Kessler? Scratch that...could you even picture the two fighting? Bute already beat him so that's out of the question.

Andrade - the danger man of the 168 lb. division. How about a fight between him and Bika? Let those two go at it in a phone booth cuz all the top contenders will stay away from him. This is the last guy you wan't to fight if he's not a mandatory as Lucian Bute found out.

Sorry if I was a little hard on the Australian fighters guys. Just my opinion. For the record, Danny Green and Paul Briggs were big favorites of mine.

Havent read through the whole thread so this might have been said...

Froch is an EXTREMELY dangerous and underated fighter. He will clean up given the chance - Kessler, Taylor, whoever. He has been struggling along for years with poor promotions and lack of proper TV support.

Pretty much the same thing in the Porras fight.

Bollocks, mate! Froch's been better promoted than all British fighters out there, save Calzaghe, Hatton and Khan, and he's been more favourably matched throughout his career than both Calzage and Hatton, and Khan too, now with Prescott and all. Froch's resume looks a lot better than it should because of that...He's been allowed to pick and choose soft/over the hill/ bruised and battered opponents for a long time and run his mouth about KOing everyone whilst ducking hard challengers, and now he gets a title shot against an unproven prospect with a questionable chin! Can you get a better promotion than that?:huh

Absolutely correct. Froch got Tatesvosyan after Bute took him apart and Reid was completely shot when Froch got to him. It's nice to pick and choose.

And the ref...a certain Terry O'Connor...helped Froch in the Tatevosyan fight by stopping it a bit too early...;)

    Come on...

I love Hatton but there is no way you can say during the WBU years he was not 'favouably matched' - Joe as well - years of fighting no marks and being promoted to the max by Fwank. Prescott= HUGE **** up, not Khan stepping up.

Anyway, my point was that Hennessy is a small outfit, fighting in front of a few bods at Ali Pally. Having said that I have just checked and it looks like he is fighting on ITV1 - cant get bigger potential audience than that so...

    Fair point.

Neither Calzaghe nor Hatton were matched up as softly as Froch was until they were 31 or had 23 fights under their belts or had been a pro for 6 years though.;)

Add these to make his first 6 years:

    07-07 -- Jason Rowland, Manchester, England, W KO 4
    09-15 -- John Bailey, Manchester, England, W TKO 5
    10-27 -- Freddie Pendleton, Manchester, England, W KO 2

    12-14 -- Joe Hutchinson, Newcastle, England, W KO 4
    2003
    04-05 -- Vince Phillips, Manchester, England, W 12

Joe is similar - fought Robin Reid after 6 years.

Time isnt on Froch's side, but he can be a real force.

Anyway, this could go on forever... lets just hope he wind the title.

    Have a nice Sunday!
