Well...of course MGM is hardly a bad place for a boxing event. But wouldn't a so-called smart business man think about some big stadium? :think Knowing perfectly well the place would be filled in a blink of an eye.
"The highest, Oscar De La Hoya vs Floyd Mayweather Jr on May 5, 2007 grossed $18,419,200.00. The fight sold out in three hours breaking the previous North American highest-grossing live gate record of $16,860,300.00 million in 1999 for the Lennox Lewis vs Evander Holyfield heavyweight rematch at the Thomas & Mack." So yeah it would be stupid to book the venue that hosted the highest grossing gate in Nevada boxing history...
Like the cowboys stadium which doesn't generate the gate revenue which the MGM does even though it holds more people.
Nah...of course it would be a huge success. But lets put any bias aside, Would a 40 000 places stadium generates much more money? :think
filling stadiums doesnt make nearly as much money as PPV does, ticket sales dont make boxers rich TV does he could go to some big stadium in a boring city or fight in Vegas which is basically the fight capital and attracts lots of ppl this fight is a gold mine either way does it matter
You are the one not putting bias aside. The highest boxing gates in history come from Vegas, so why wouldn't he pick the MGM?
Who exactly is Mayweather fighting off to book the MGM Grand on May 5th? There's only two other people that would be competition for a MGM booking and that's the UFC and Pacquiao. The MGM Grand is open the entire months of May and June, enough of this ****. The UFC's next three main events are horse ****, they would never book **** cards like that at the MGM, they would sell 5k tickets.
If there is not much difference like you say then no, it doesn't matter. That's what I'm trying to know: Would there be a big difference in generated money? That needs to be answered before judging any side.
IIRC, ALL of the biggest fights in boxing have been held @ the MGM for almost the last decade. Exactly where else is the fight to be held? Arum's talk about some mythical "temporary stadium" is nonsense.
