You think Canelo or Cotto care about a WBO 154 belt? Neither cares to sweat all the way down to 154 again. Winner of Cotto/Canelo has WBC 160 and MW lineal. Plus Canelo recognizes Floyd as the 154 champ, he could care zilch about a 154 trinket. He wants to be the real champ, which w/o Floyd rematch basically means beating Cotto and GGG for MW supremacy. Could have meant Andrade too if he had a 160 trinket and made some noise in the division. If he wants to stay at 154 then cool, thats his call. But he isnt likely to get any meaningful fights and his talking about Canelo and GGG ring hollow. Put it this way, the three doable fights that GBP has talked about this week are Cotto, GGG and Chavez Jr. Provided even one of those is good enough to warrant a rematch, thats 2 years of PPV right here. So amidst fighting at 156-162 range, Canelo going to drain all the way back down to 154 for a non PPV? Not happening.
Posted kinda the same thing on 'scene. If the WBO only allow him to hold a strap in one division I can kinda see the rationale, perhaps he's waiting to see which way the big money jumps. OTOH he doesn't really seem to have anything else lined up, and a 160 strap could open up various new options (Alvarez especially is routinely fighting over 154 now and a move north appears imminent). If Cotto and Alvarez continue to fight over the 154 limit Boo BOO's likely to be kicking himself later. I certainly don't consider it a duck, but it was a potentially winnable fight and a great opportunity to make a statement at the higher weight (which given his size he's likely to move to eventually anyway).
I don't think Cotto has any problems getting back to 154, his fight weight against Martinez was pretty much what it was at LMW, Canelo has stated previously he wants to stay at LMW, though contradicting info keeps coming out about his future intentions. My gut feeling is if the fight happens it will be at LMW, at this weight theres always a shot at a mayweather fight down the line too. I think GGG will fight the canelo/cotto winner at MW. Andrade may have a shot a the loser, but it that's Cotto, I think he'll retire. If Cotto wins at LMW I think he'll be after a FMJ rematch, then Canelo will step up to Middleweight and fight GGG. Think whatever happens at any weight Andrades out of the picture for 2015 for the big fights. So if he has to drop the WBO LMW, to fight a small money fight in what looks like a 50/50 contest to me, there doesn't seem much in it for him.
Yes, eventually. There are good fights there for him. Especially if he runs his mouth on twitter and petitions to move up and fight for a belt, cutting line in front of another fighter.
Why is he getting shifted on for this he isn't obligated to move up plus he has a belt at 154. Even if he so-called wasted people time it's not a duck. He is still very young let him do work at 154 like every other fighter does at there chosen weight class.
looks like andrade didn't want to fight in the same division as ggg after all the trash he talked about him.
get a clue no big names like canelo or cotto are going to fight a guy who has zero name value like andrade does.both of those guys last ppv flopped big time Martinez and lara are way bigger names then andrade is so I can't even imagine how bad the ppv buys would be if canelo or cotto fought andrade.and no one cares about a paper belt.:deal
Booboo might be going for the Alvarez payday. Funny thing is that i think that Alvarez will move up in weight before Booboo should get a shot.
Why not ? I see no problem with it . Hes just as big as the current MW champions . Even bigger than GGG A win over Korobov and him becoming a 2 division champion could really jump start his career . Unfortunately , he chose to stay @ 154 . He must have a very good reason to stick around and not move up .
Canelo's next fight in December isn't likely to be PPV either against Clottey, don't think Cotto's fght will if he fights between now and May either. The thread relates to Andrade being a "duck" for not moving to middleweight, as the main big money fighters aren't likely to fight him anytime soon. Him vacating his LMW to as you say win another "paper" belt at MW isn't worth it, which is pretty much what I meant. What are the thoughts of him generally in the USA anyway? I think he's got a fair amount of potential for what I've seen. He doesn't seem to have much fan base, either in attending fights or "chat" about him on forums / boxing programmes etc. I think he's all wrong for Canelo with his fighting style in and will be favourite if they fought. Both Andrade and Canelo are quite young so Andrades got time to build a name for himself.
:deal Hes 6'2" And yeah you pretty much nailed it. 2 division champ, big HBO and media exposure, being in the division HBO most wants to push. It would have jumpstarted his career. Hes not obligated to move up by any means. For me its just hard to get excited about a guy that big who thinks one decent win entitles him to sit back and have the names come to him on his terms. Especially since his promoter is small time with no clout, hes not going to get opportunities often. His D2BG quotient is very low, which is just disappointing in my book. I really thought he would seize his chance to get in the public eye and make waves.
Miguel might as well give up that MW Belt . Because hes not beating anyone else at 160 . Okay you made history and got what you wanted , now give it up before some hungry full fledged MW comes for you and decapitates you .
He should have never been ranked there in the first place with no fights in the division, so I'm not sad this fight won't be happening. I also think generally it's never a duck if you turn down a fight in a division you're not competing in.
