At 23 fight Dawson took the title from Thomas Adamek. A proven champion. Who is Cleverly's next opponent.

    THATS A LIE.....

he was actually 24... 25 in 4 months and he'd had more fights.....

No jack, it's just semantics, sparked means knocked out, I used it to mean hurt, my bad. Cleverly laughed but it was a show, he was clearly wobbled and his legs weren't under him for a bit as Kuziemski chased him down. Sorry buddy, another brit hypejob is waiting to get exposed and you can't stomach it :good

Any time you can get high quality sparring with a talented boxer like Dirrell, it can only help your chances of performing good in the fight. Dirrell most likely has something to do with Groves doing well against Degale.

I don't think anyone is particularly bothered about whether he makes it or not, what irritates people is your world famous Yanky ignorant smugness, when you clearly aren't knowledgeable enough to be acting so. :smooch

He wasn't outboxed. His corner had a much inferior gameplan to Groves' corner. The fight itself was very evenly balanced and both fighters showed a lot of promise - Most consider these future world champions, including Dirrell. The real difference between them and why DeGale was so ineffective, was that his corner didn't know how to beat Groves. When two guys are evenly matched, a gameplan is the difference and it was between these two. Groves had one, DeGale didn't, which is why he was begging Groves to fight aggressively.
DeGale has better movement, throws better combinations, picks off shots better, slides better, can counter punch better and more.

Dirrell is better physically but DeGale has more skills.
Maybe "no heart" is harsh. I think "glass heart" is more suited.
The reason for that is because he was with Enzo Calzaghe for most of his early career and he always takes fighters power away in favour of overwhelming them. Apart from that, Cleverly is still growing up. He's only 24 and this is the first year he's dedicated himself to boxing fully.

8 of his last stoppages have come in his last 9 fights. He's only had 11 fights since leaving Calzaghe after the legal issues between Joe and Frank Warren forced the split. Cleverly has developed power. You're ignorant if you discount that.
That was at one or two days notice and he is a slippery fighter, completely different to what he was training for. No shame in that.

I can't take it. If Cleverly loses, it doesn't bother me. I just don't agree with you saying he was "sparked" when he clearly wasn't hurt or bothered by the punches. That's the way Cleverly fights. He loves to take punches and get involved in tough, gritty bouts. He wasn't hurt.

It's unfair to look at Cleverly's previous history and judge him off that. He's only a young fighter and he wasn't full time then either. He was studying for a degree so if you think he was 100% committed or close to his best, you'd be wrong.
