The only difference between holding and clinching is in the words, but the action is the same. The berto fight was horrible, Cintron did edge out Angulo though. Maybe now Angulo will fight at the pace he should have been fighting and and try to learn instead of looking for a title. He also needs a real trainer.

 

I have no problem with someone who clinches as a platform to punch off of (assuming they aren't blatant rabbit punches). However, when a fighter simply hugs another fighter, as in, grabs them with no intention of letting go until the ref makes them do so, thats just plain terrible on the eyes.

If someone clinches, then lets go, rips a few to the body, then leans on them again, rinse and repeat etc, i have no problem with that. I love to hear the ref say "punch your way out", if the ref just separates them, it will happen the exact same way again.

Clinching will always be a part of boxing, and i have no problem with a fighter using clinching and leaning to support their inside work, but simply hugging and not throwing, for the purpose of saving energy and recovering should be penalised when used in excess.

 

Berto is an HBO favorite, so he gets away with everything he wants. He was not clinching, he was holding in every round. The ref should have taken several points away, and perhaps disqualified Berto if he did not stop, but there are two sets of rules.

Agreed....You should be allowed to clinch but not excessively like what I witnessed last saturday.

 

this is absolutly killing the sport. and to see young guys in high profile fights is a ****ing shame. bhop really exploited the rules of clinching over his carreer. if an opponent is holding you, you can punch, while he fighter who starts the holding cannot. i would like to see more guys using a free arm to fight there way out. if a good ref sees this he won't call a break until both arms are held, so you can effectivly punish a guy for holding with out getting hit back. but when a guy just mauls, points need to be taken. and if neither fighter is trying to fight there way out, this should be a nocontest and purses need to be taken. thats what happened back in the 40's. it's the only way to keep it out if the sport.

True because a lot of boxers don't fight it, and simply wait for a break. Hitting and staying active on the inside will deter a spoiler from clinching.

In Cintron's case, it wasn't THAT bad. He was clearly gassing out and about to get ready for a canvas kiss...so his holding actually IMHO made the fight exciting. It became excessive moreso in the 12th than any other round. Which wasn't so bad. Im half rican and still ****in' despise Crybaby Kermit. Bitchass *** :bart:fire:bart

Berto on the other hand is just ****in' boring. Watching him **** up the sport like that when he was nowhere near hurt was ****in' ridiculous. It didn't even need to be part of his gameplan. He could've outworked him with his footwork and speed. He took more punishment that way. Makes me think his corner is a ****in' joke.
