they're sensitive since they know that their fighter is a slap-tag guy who should be in amateur boxing rather than pro boxing. in pro boxing, the objective is to hurt the other guy and get him in trouble, not just to slap a ton of punches, land them, score points and give an illusion of false dominance.

that's why these fans find ways to discredit his opponents in the hopes of covering up the deficiencies and shortcomings of their idol. yes, hops did a ***** move by milking some time off a legit low blow but calzaghe also did his slap-tagging which has definitely no place in pro boxing.

he didn't cheat, he tried to cheat, but cortez didn't take a point away, calzaghe team said before the fight that if the fight wasn't going in hopkins way he was going to try anything to win even get himself disqualified, when i saw hopkins crawling on the floor I said oh ****,he's going to claim he's to hurt to continue.

It's sad to see a once great fighter reduced to the level of a talentless palooka like Ruiz, but Hopkins is washed up. I'm a big Hopkins fan, but he deserves to be slammed for this. Unlike Ruiz, however, he didn't make an entire CAREER out of faking low blows or holding excessively, let's remember.

    LOL!!!

I'm not making no excuse for nobody. I could give a **** less. Neither fighter is exactly my favorite, just find it amusing the amount of attention that this incident is getting.

    Kirk - Pipe - Yeah - It wasn't compelling.

For me it was how predictable the fight went.

Hopkins dangerous early, Zag uses his speed and footwork and Hopkins uglifies the fight.

Joe doesn't have the punch to make a fight exciting for me as you know he doesn't have stopping power.

I can't speak for those guys but I'm not partial when it comes to the grabbing ****. Hopkins is a huge offender of this and so is Hatton and so is Ruiz and so is Waldo. All of them should be gone from the sport for the better of the sport.

Calzaghe lately hasn't been far behind either.

I maintain that the rules regarding the clinching are not enforced clearly and consistently. There needs to be better ruling that doesn't leave it at the discretion of the referee. Trust me the sport does a 180 in terms of popularity the day they make that change.

He was tired and felt Calzaghe coming on stronger while he was fading. So he faked a punch to the balls. End of story.

yes when Hopkins grabs and holds it nis "crafty" but when Ruiz does it it is awful. Hopkins looked just like Ruiz out there.

None of those are as old school or crafty as a good old fashioned knee to the kidney on the refs blindside.

That first shot they have an angle on the ESPN highlights on the ESPN boxing section - The second one I haven't seen in replay today - From memory THAT one to me looked more of a case of Hopkins bunging on a bit of an act - But that first one made me wince in my hungover state.

I agree 100%. Hopkins lost his street credit. Faking low blows to catch a breather?

Exactly right. Holding in itself is not that bad if it's accompanied by boxing. However, when it becomes a substitute for boxing as in Hopkins' case, it's terribly annoying and boring.
