Just a simple question or two...do you think they are rife in boxing??? My gut feeling is yes far more than many realise. Especially in the heavyweight division were there are no weight limits. I think fighters get on them because they are told that if they dont they'll be at a disadvantage because all other Pro fighters are on them. So they jump on the bandwagon. If such is true then despite drugs its still a level playing field..at least if all are actually on them? I'm not accusing anyone here or condemning or condoning but I'm feeling its sorta like Pro Bodybuilding in regard that its well known but unspoken and so tests in boxing are such that only a fool gets caught. Do you think James Toney, RJJ, Holyfield, Morrison etc etc were just caught becuase they were the unlucky few that were using them?? Or maybe they made some foolish error that their calculations of when their systems should be clean was done in error. If pro boxing does want to be clean and drug free..why does it have such a way of testing that its REALLY easy to get a negative result despite actually being a user?? Why does it resist olympic style testing? I notice a lot of fighters get with certain trainers and in the following months their weight goes up. Coincidence? Maybe. And maybe not. Look at LL in his early career and his weight...he definately got bigger as he got older and it wasn't body fat as you get with age! His muscles were bigger under Manny than early on in his pro career. Was he still a young man growing? Hmmm not so convinced. Look at Pac...look at Khan since he got with Roach. He's gone up a weight class. Is this conclusive?? Not at all. Khan could be genuinely have been struggling to make his weight class so up he went. And indeed it is true that he is a young man maybe still growing at least if he weight trains. Roach despite his supposed ignorance on Steroids does know about them..as was recently exposed on here. Anyway its all just a discussion. Is it possible to express your views without a flame war?? I hope so...lets see! What do you think...PEDs are rife or not??
Yes I think they are rife. Many boxing fans seem to overlook the fact though as it is too inconvenient for their heroes' image. Look at Jones Jr, Toney and Mosley. All known steroid cheats, but still as popular as ever.
I think it's the majority that uses them, one way or another. A rich minority probably uses them to a sophisticated extent, judging by the change in physics of some boxers, in both directions (natural->supernaturally inflated->deflated with ***** tits from improper going off them).
The only defense we have are the beacons of light like Floyd Mayweather Jr. who has taken it on his shoulders to, going forward, aim for a clean sport.
Thank God Floyd Mayweather Jr. has taken up the human rights cause of cleaning up the sport of boxing. We all deserve to be equal. Let's just hope he is not assassinated during one of his glorious and inspiring interviews on ESPN.
honestly i dont see boxing as having a huge issue be it they do not test rigorously enough or the fighters just dont use them either way the sport has not had a bad track history with this stuff i think if it becomes prevalent like baseball or track then we will see a crack down...as of now i dont think it is a huge problem simply because its not enough evidence to suggest so.
But its me taking a stand for something that means something. And its for the fighters who are up and coming. Its sort of the same stance Martin Luther King and Malcolm X made, so we could have freedoms, so everybody could tell the world that were equal. The only thing Im saying is that we are equal. So if youre not on nothing and Im not on nothing, then lets go take the test. Thats all Im saying." FMJ, Grand Rapids Press He has a dream....
yeah I believe they are especially when you consider how **** the testing is yet there are still people getting caught and they must be only a very small fraction of who is actually using them based on how easy the test are. How many tests are standard? I thought it was day of the fight and one time when the fight was announced? I read somewhere it was only 2 urine tests... That gives them free reign to take whatever the **** they want while they are training and pass the test no problem. Add to that the things that are undetectable in current tests and other unknown drugs from the next balco that may be out there... it leaves a lot of room for the possibility of them being rampant yet failed drug tests to still be very rare. I think that just in general it is amazing how in the last 15 years or so the abilities of the fighters who are 35+ are way beyond what they traditionally used to be. We know how guys like Ali, SRL were at that age. Foreman had a 10 year break and when he came back he relied on his immense power, solid chin and improved defense but he was slow as molasses. Now days it is the norm for 35+ fighters to be so competitive with the young guys when that was unheard of 20 years ago. I think the reasons are pretty obvious.
Hell yeah PEDs are in use just like in all major sports. Thank PBF for bringing attention to it and hopefully modern testing will start.
I don't believe there are running rampant in boxing, but I do believe there are some who are using them. I do agree that if boxing as a sport wants to crack down on the use of PEDs and other drugs that are not detectable by conventional means, they should adopt Olympic style drug testing. I commend Floyd Mayweather Jr for saying he wants to clean up the sport, but I have a serious problem with his timing and motive. If he truly wanted to clean up the sport, why didn't he ask Marquez to take the olympic style drug testing? Why start with Pacquiao? If he really wanted to clean up the sport upon his return, why ask the second person you were supposed to fight and not the first? Now Floyd has to fight someone who may be even a tougher challenge for him than Pacquiao. Just something for the Floyd fans to think about. As far as Pacquiao is concerned, what valid reason do you have for not taking the test? Why go through all this trouble? Just take the test, show you are clean, kick Mayweather's butt, earn your pay, and walk away into the sunset. Can anyone think of better redemption than to prove you are innocent and than legally beat up the man who accused you within in inch of his life? I can't. Hopefully Pacquiao can get passed Clottey. As far as why some older guys are performing so well now a days compared to their younger counterparts, I feel it is the gym rat mentality. Guys like Hopkins and Mosley live and breathe the sport of boxing. So many of the new young guys don't have that dedication. They go up and down weight more times than a yo-yo, and this constant abuse to their bodies makes them appear older than they are. The gym rats stay at their fighting weights most of the time. They are in great shape all the time. So are PEDs around, yes. Are they rampant in boxing? I doubt it, at least it isn't in the fattyweight division.
