Absolute biggest props possible for calling Roy Jones glass jaw BEFORE the Tarver fight.

There is no doubt in my mind now, Prime Calzaghe would have stopped Prime Roy Jones.

Roy Jones career has all been smoke and mirrors and has fooled everyone. He avoided big punchers, avoided the best competition available in Eubank, Nunn, Benn, Collins, Watson, Calzaghe, DM.

Lets take a look at the facts. Roy Jones 3 best wins are considered to be Bhop, Toney and Ruiz. Bernard Hopkins has developed into a great fighter because of his ring intelligence and adaptability, 2 attributes that he hadnt developed when he fought Jones, when Bhop fought Roy Jones he was just another fighter and not an ATG like he is today.

Roy Jones fought a Toney so unmotivated that he was still 50lbs overweight with 3 weeks left for the fight.

Instead of making a real statement by going up to heavyweight and beating a champion, he went for the weakest beltholder possible - Jones decides to fight feather-fisted John Ruiz who most LHW/SMW's today would beat.

A prime Calzaghe who did not just have the workrate and adaptability he has now but had real power in both his hands, like it or not Calzaghe used to be a banger and thats why I rate him so highly because he had to totally change his style to overcome a severe physical disadvantage and still managed to remain at the top.

We saw a prelude to what would happen when Calzaghe EMBARRESSED Roy Jones last year, it would go the same way except it would end in an early stoppage.

I am not a fan of MMA.

That being said I would like to think even Roy of today would dominate Silva. Now if Silva could land a flush power punch who knows? The skill difference of top MMA strikers and Boxers is huge.

I would be pulling for Roy in that fight.

Remember this, I have never denied that Jones had great skill and athleticism. I only criticize his handpicking weak opposition and reluctance to fight the best. Jones could have truly gone down as a top great had he fought some of the fighters available to him. His resume simply does not stack up to a SRR, SRL, Ali, and others he is compared to on an All Time basis on here. To be ranked as highly as some have him all time his resume is very weak compared to his counterparts.

And you know what? If I was given that deal he was given by HBO (5 mil a fight and you can pick the opposition) I am not certain I would have done anything different. He was getting great money to fight guys 2 and 3 classes below him in skill.

I am glad Jones made 4 mil for this fight I have heard he has money troubles and I hope that is not true. I hope he retires and enjoys his family and money because I hate to see any prizefighter not have money after competing in this grueling sport. :good

    Fair enough.:good

I know this might sound crazy but I think Silva would beat Roy (of today) due to Roy's habbit of sitting on the ropes, poor pivotal and lateral movement, and your favorite attribute, his chin:lol:...Dont get me wrong...Roy would have destroyed Silva or even this Danny Green guy years ago but thats in the past...I'm not trying give Roy **** but as of now, Roy is totally shot and I dont think he needs to fight on.

Except for it didn't end with an early stoppage when jones was so significantly past his best that he should never have survived the fight let alone had his moments....speaking of had his moments are we talking about the same Calzaghe that struggled for the first half of his fight with Kessler...the same guy that just got completely embarassed by Ward...yeah if you want to talk about over rated...or a career being smoke and Mirrors you might want to start with that guy.

I think even this version of Roy would dominate Silva. The stand up ability would just be too wide.

Ever since the Tarver KO it just seems like Jones lost his confidence.

In a perfect world he should have stayed at Heavyweight and fought Byrd for the IBF and then tried to fight Brewster for the WBO. Both of those were winnable fights for Roy. He would have been the WBA/IBF/WBO Heavyweight champion and a fight with Lewis would have been huge.

Lewis would have crushed him but Roy would have got a HUGE payday for that fight. There is no shame in getting sparked by a Lennox Lewis. Instead he was brutally KOed by Tarver and feather fisted Glen Johnson which is more damaging than a KO to any Heavyweight would have been.

Nothing. It did not knock Valuev down so it really does not matter. Valuev had been stunned/wobbled before. It was a dreadful and boring fight one of the worst I have ever seen and to think we are going to be seeing a rematch in 2010. Nobody wants to watch that garbage again.

God, this is terrible news. :-((

I expected Roy to school Green in a sort of Jeff Lacy fashion.

Jones was so quick he was able to move his head in his prime and dodge punches. I still think he's one of the best boxers. He was always entertaining to watch.
