Because Roy is smart. He is taking his show on the road and he needs dance partners.

One thing you yanks don't understand is aussies support sport.....for a small country we are big on sports P4P.

Green VS RJJ will get a gate of 60,000 people......and a PPV of over 150,000 people in Aust.....this means a $15,000,000 fight on aussie soil not including OS PPV......cost aside that's $7,000,000 for RJJ plus world PPV rights.....that's why he's doing it :deal

Not so suddenly. I remember that about two years ago, Roy was willing to travel to Germany to fight Markus Beyer (of all people...) and entered negotiations for that fight. It didn't come off in the end, I don't know why.

    Top post Ash.

The USA doesnt realise they fight in Melbourne and they will sell out the Etihad Stadium. Which is 55,000.

How come we know this well put it this way back in 2003 Tszyu vs Leija there sold 33,000 tickets.

Thats for Lieja not a huge name. But Green vs Jones Jr.

Mate it will sell out. Jones Jr B-Hop couldnt sell out The Garden and that only holds 20,000.

    Jones aint stupid.

you guys are right about that, but you also cant compare it directly.
the reason why so many fights are held in vegas is because the tradeoff for a live gate is easily made up for by the casinos.

i'm from perth so i know that having a genuine star like jones come over is going to be a big thing. australia is relatively starved of top international sportsstars, so the average sportsfan who doesnt know jones will watch it believing that this is his ticket to stardom.

australians do love their sports, but very, very few will know roy jones.

Jones is promoting his own PPV shows in the US, and it's very possible he's actually losing money not making in the Lacy type of small-time PPVs. But outside of the US, he's still so big, that a country like Australia can put down hard cash (I mean millions) and promote it as "Biggest boxing event of our country", so why not take it.

I still don't really understand this match-up. Australia is a small country, there is just not that much money in a boxing event compared to the US or some European countries. I can't see 50,000 people turning up to watch this fight. People know that in elite terms Green is a never-was and Jones is a has-been. And surely this couldn't be a PPV. I'll go to this fight because I'm a massive Green fan, but the general public must know that both these guys are completely on the fringe of legitmate contenders in the LHW/CW divisions. Green retired when he was in a position to make a splash on the world stage and RJJ should have retired 5 years ago.

He's past it and has nothing to lose, he's doing this because he wants to not because he has to so taking serious risks like that are normal.

Back then he didn't need to move out for no one, all the big fights were in the US. It was guys like Calzaghe who had to make the trip if they wanted recognition, RJJ didn't need to and had all the recognition he needs.

As much as some people hate to admit, all big fights are in the US. Pacquiao's big fights are all in the US too, I don't see him saying anything about it or disagreeing.

    Helps Nigel Benn that is.

Benn was called out before and publicly turned down a career high payday, as a matter of fact Benn, Lyle and Collins were ALL offers paydays they were never offered before and not even close yet turned it down.

Anyone with boxing knowledge knows that RJJ would destroy Benn. I love Benn, he's a great fighter but he has no business fighting RJJ in his prime and he didn't. After the screwjob with McClellan and obvious pro-Benn referee, I don't think anyone with brains would argue why RJJ didn't go there to make it happen.
