Fat Dan, through none other than SOG himself, threw us a bone: Team Ward tried to make a Stieglitz fight within.. I don't know, the past 24 hrs since they announced Groves was pulling out?!

    Here it goes:

    Dan Rafael ‏ @danrafaelespn
With Groves out of the Stieglitz fight wouldnt mind seeing Stieglitz wait and fight @andreward in a unification bout this summer.

    Andre S.O.G. Ward ‏ @andreward
    @danrafaelespn We've tried...he priced himself out!!

The S6 finals got Ward around 950K and got Froch just about 500K. Team Kessler guaranteed Stieglitz upwards of 1M (as in, way upwards) and Fwank Wahrren had won the purse bid, Groves being the WBO mando.

Point is, I don't think Team Ward offered Stieglitz a guaranteed amount at or above 1M.

One's gotta consider the whole "Bute needs to earn a shot" ordeal a bit laughable, knowing Stieglitz holds a belt just like Bute does, and seeing how he made the Russian/German an offer after passing on making one to the Romanian/Canadian who had just said he was willing to come to Oakland. Now Ward said he's disappointed because they couldn't work a Bute fight out?! 4 months ago, tomorrow, is when Goossen told Bedard he wanted an easier homecoming fight for Andre.

Ward lowballed Stieglitz. 'Sup Bat. :smoke

    What a great question.

    A) I'll refer you to "possibly" from the thread title; and

    B) 'Sup Bat.

If you didn't follow any of the Bute lowballed Kessler / Kessler ducked Bute threads over the past year, you probably don't get the right idea looking at this thread.

So we shouldn't take any of what you're saying seriously. It's an inside joke of some kind. Fair enough.

Guy probably makes more money in Germany so I doubt Ward had enough to offer.

So is Ward supposed to make less than Steiglitz to make the fight happen?

Well, he won't go to Germany where the money is better overall. All of this is just speculation though. We don't know the terms offered but generally the purses in Germany are better. HBO offered up a TOTAL of one million for a Pavlik/Sturm match up. Sturm makes more than that himself fighting stiffs in Germany.

Onus would be on Stieglitz though. Stay in Europe fighting bums or challenge yourself against the best?

    Tough call.

Well hello there Capt. Obvious, thanks for posting!

If you think there was evidence that Bute lowballed Kessler, you shall know that there is evidence that Ward lowballed Stieglitz.

It's not totally out to lunch either. Ward's opponents don't make much, and Stieglitz makes VERY good money in Germany. Not expecting Ward to go to Germany, nor am I expecting him to match what Stieglitz was getting to cash out against Kessler in Denmark. I would most definitely however like to point out that Bute is going to his opponent's backyard and is taking a large cut in earnings i.e. over 50%.

Ward is in a bad position. He's clearly the best at 168, but the guys who are likely challengers make more money.

If he wants the big paydays, he's got to hit the road and fight Bute in Canada andSteiglitz in Germany

Why should he take a huge risk for less money?

Because he wants to show that he's the best? Look at what Bute's doing now...

    You're talking about Ward.

If we're gonna be as critical as Bute's haters were before he agreed to go to the UK, let's just say Ward has shown no willingness to travel so far. None.

    You're talking about Stieglitz.

He's happy making great money in Germany, and was going to cash out for a huge payday in Denmark. No jackpot? No risk.
