Had a hard few years to begin with, much like the likes Prince Charles Williams, whom he beat strangely. Freddie Pendleton is a good comparison as well, Lampkin picked up a title like him as well. Was over matched a few fights into his career against the likes of a 40 plus fight Fulgencio Obelmejias. Extremely high KO ratio, 34 knockouts in 39 wins. Seemed to have an iron chin as well, only two stoppages in 19 losses. I've seen the Hide fight from late in his career and Hide kept putting him down but they weren't devastating knockdowns, he kept getting up rather easily.
His brutal left hook to the body won him the IBF cruiserweight title against Glenn McCrory and allowed him to defend it once against Siza Makathini. Doesn't seem like the videos of his two title fights are available anymore. I suggest searching for them because they are the two of the best body punches you'll ever see, atleast the McCrory knockout.
very true but mcCrory was very weight weakened .makathini had given mcCrory a hell of a fight winning the first half of the fight then going down by 11th round ko .
So it seemed. However he would've had to have been in peak condition to take that left hook to the body. It was vicious.
yeah it was a great shot and weight weakened or not it could well of ended the fight anyway .i was watching the mCcrory/makathini fight just after xmas then my video player broke when i had found the lampkin/mcCrory fight:twisted:
