Abso-****ing-lutely. Monson's a stud. He's been one of my favourite fighters for a long long time. Remember his North South on Brendan Lee Hinkle? That **** was sweet. Monson's strong as an Ox as he uses a strong man regime during his workouts. He clamped down on Hinkle's neck like a pit bull and choked him unconscious.
If I remember correctly, I think he's on the Overeem/Werdum card for Strikeforce. Wouldn't be surprised if he makes a return to the UFC shortly, however I think that's all dependent on wins over Gluhov & Cormier in his next two fights - both tough fights imo.
I know I heard a rumor that Frank Mir and him use to have some heated grappling sessions and Frank almost broke his arm in a kimora once and after that Monson refused to spar with Mir again.
yep. Rusty nails is full of it (sorry bro) Monson has zero striking and couldnt even reach a heavyweight (underrated ) - his grappling is as good as it gets. He's a wrestler turned grappler, very very strong, very technically sound, physically blocky and awkward. Bit too old and slow now to do much though I'd say.
I have to say, I can honestly see him struggling against Gluhov in a couple of weeks. Gluhov's striking is something else, and considering his background this definately shouldn't be overlooked. However as is always the downside with the up & coming fighters of today - a weakness & Gluhov's weakness plays right into Monson's game. He's struggles fighting off his back.
[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P3lvU--UFN0[/ame] I never said jeffs jiu jitsu was ****. Its not. hes world class. maybe overated is the wrong word but this is what happens when you match jeff with a true master. keep in mind jeffs got 25 kilos on this guy. his match with saulo he had 74 kilos up against 125 and he couldnt do ANYTHING with saulo. and yet people wanna call him "worlds best" like luiz big mac, jeffs known as a bit of a lay and pray artist. his game consists of pass and darce and thats about it. look at how many decisions hes gone to. hes never going to win any awards for most technical competitor, noone really seeks him out for advice and if you stripped 30 kilos off him hed be half the grappler he is today. thats the mark of true jiu jitsu. but **** what do i know..
