While I do think Floyd's resume is pretty good, there are many myths about the guy as well. Brits especially fawn over him like teenage girls. Talking about the dude like he's a greek god who can hurl bolts of lightening and wipe out entire cities.

On another thread gaz was talking about how people always talk about the "hidden gears" that Floyd supposedly has (but failed to use them against DLH and Castillo when he needed them). Another myth is that Floyd is the master of psychological warfare because he apparently "got inside Hatton's head and is now in Pac's head". Get a ****in grip. When you have boxers who generally don't talk **** but they do against Floyd, apparently they're acting "out of character". No **** you ****s. I don't normally talk **** either but if some **** says something to me then I might say something back. It doesn't mean I'll lose sleep over it or get in a rage and lose control, FFS. If he is a master of psychological warfare then what happened to him when RA the rugged man interrogated his ass on the radio? He was stuttering and mumbling like a fool. What happened then? Did Ra the rugged man get inside Floyd's head?

Apparently Floyd can also beat people without facing them. Ask why he avoided Margarito. "Man, you saw what Shane did to him, Floyd woulda whooped his ass" Cotto? Same answer. Williams? Same answer.

Don't get me wrong, credit should be given when it's deserved but ever since he whooped Hatton, he's been ****in brits up the ass and making them call him daddy.

You know what it reminds me of? You know when Jose Mourinho came to England and called himself the special one? Then **** reporters were so pathetic they started worshipping him like he actually WAS the special one and even started refering to him by that name. You'd think they'd have some self respect and see him for what he is. A smug **** from Portugal who is obviously a good manager but couldn't have done **** without Abramovich but no, they were lovestruck. Tht's how it is with Floyd right now. There are so many myths about the guy, apparently he's unstoppable, skills like that have never been seen in the history of boxing, he's a god.

Mourinho won the UEFA Cup then Champions League in back to back seasons with...............PORTO!!
Didnt he just win it again with Inter?

    Id find some new reasoning.

I think Mourinho went on to prove himself :yep

I think it's odd. I don't think a fighter has ever done what Floyd has and still receive widespread acclaim. His resume really lacks quality, and whilst he is clearly technically adept, he has only a handful of truly brilliant performances.

His style is considered flawless, when in fact he seems to underperform against usub-par opposition. He appears supreme, but his low punch output, often negative performances and, of course, his well-documented opposition, mean, that whilst Floyd has done NOTHING WRONG WHATSOEVER AND IS A PERFECTLY FINE OPERATOR WHO I ENJOY WATCHING WORK (that shits the truth) he neither appears better than quite a few fighters throughout history that applied their skillsets as flawlessly (that **** is for all to see, and even though aesthetic quality is each to their own, the fact that are at least on par with Floyd cannot be denied) the fact of the matter is this:

A lot of fighters have proved their greatness against a wide variety of ELITE opposition. Some have awesome wins that they shouldn't have. Some overcome titanic struggles. Some fought every available fighter in many weight classes and beat them. Some have lost to some middling fighters, but had sufficient enough impressive wins to still surpass Floyd.

Is Floyd great? Arguably. I would say he is amongst the top 100 fighters there has ever been.

Is it 'hatred' or 'without reason' to place fighters that, plain and simple, were as good and did much more? To look at the cold facts that are easily accesible for us all?

Or is it the better idea to give a fighter a free pass and just assume that they couldve beaten all the best fighters that were around?

Hmph, and I'm the one who can't reason?!?

I think he's incredibly talented, but he's like a reluctant bride. He wants to turn up to the wedding and get all the gifts, but he won't put out for the groom and show them how special he really is.

Still, knocking the **** out of Hatton will always endear him to me.

Yeah, it wasn't the greatest analogy, but the rest of his post was.

*sigh* you know my point. When you have a dude who's ego is already out of control, don't inflate it further.

Floyd has been talking **** for so long that people are now believing his hype. I've always given him credit btw, always but I know he can be beat and I know he has a history of ducking and doging. Look past his unbeaten record.

Yeah he's frustrating because he's not putting himself in a situation where he leaves no doubt. Look at DLH, he fought the best time and time again, and we know everything there is to know about him. That he's a very good fighter but came up short against the best, so he's not a great. With Floyd there are still question marks. I think when he's retired we won't really know how good he was, because he hasn't taken on certain challenges.

Thats fair but the way the wind seems to be blowing Mayweather is going to get credit from people thinking he could've beaten great fighters instead of actually beating them.

Its like the "0" has given him unlimited potential whereas I'd rather ask "who DID he beat and how did he perform?" Its up to Mayweather to make his legacy, not sit back on his "0" and hope fans fill in the gaps favourably.

Thats a great line. We know exactly how good DLH is.

That's what I've always said about why I like Froch, because he might not be the greatest fighter ever, but we will find out exactly how good he is because he will keep taking on challanges. Same with Hatton in fairness to him.

That's whats frustrating with Floyd, and I find with Calzaghe as well. They left the biggest challenges on the table, so we never know what their limit actually was.

I think your under rating Mayweather opposition slightly, and skimming through certain details of other great fighters.

Hernandez was a huge step up after 2 years as a pro. He defended his Super Featherweight title 10 times. Corrales was a giant and huge puncher, undefeated at the time. When there were doubts over his win agasint Castillo, he rematched him imediatley and won clear. Gatti was coming of 3 World title wins and looking better than he had before. Judah is a tough night for anyone. Baldomir was the ring champion. De La Hoya had a huge weight advantage over him. Hatton may have been jumping up but 147lbs is 20lbs above where Floyd started and he was undefeated at the time. Fans said he didn't want to fight a true Welterweight like Mosley and he dominated him. For a period of 10 years he only had title fights or eliminators and he won them all. WBC Champion in 5 weights, Lineal champion at 3 weights.

Mayweather wanted fights with Naseem Hammed, Joel Casamyaor, Ascelino Freitis, Miguel Cotto and he called out De La Hoya and Mosley years before they faced him.

Sugar Ray Leonard didn't exactly chase a fight with Aaron Pryor or a rematch with Marvin Hagler?? You can pick whole in everyones record.

With Mayweather you need to apreciate him for what he is, one of the great all time defensive fighters and one of the only true boxers of his era. I hate fantasy fights but you would put him in there with any boxer in history and give him a shot, especially at Super Feather and Lightweight, where he was a far more aggresive fighter.

Rob, its pet peeve of mine but check out the dates on Leonard-Pryor..they don't really match. Leonard was retired before Pryor had finished with Arguello at 140. Pryor never fought at welter while Leonard was active.

Pryor was Light Welterweight champion from 1980 to 1985. Leonard retired for the first time in 1982. Pryor always called out Leonard.
