This aint a anti-Mayweather or pro-Pacman thread before anyone starts but just trying to work out when people believe Mosley became a shot fighter.

At the time when he fought Mayweather there was alot of people who wanted to see this fight and believed Mosley had a good shot (even though PBF was heavy favorite) of beating mayweather.

Since then he took a one sided (bar round 2) beating of Mayweather and scraped a tough draw with Mora (which alot of peolpe edged for mora).

Now hes fighting Pacman a year after he fought floyd and just about everyone considers him a shot fighter who will be brutally beat down.

Some people go back to the Mayorga fight to where his decline became claerly visable when he was on the verge of defeat and pulled off an excellent last second stoppage. He then won a one-sided bout with margaritto who was highly rated at the time (handwraps and bouts after has changed opion).

Over the hill, past his prime even more then oscar when he faced floyd.
Mostly is near shot now, and shot after the pacquiao fight.

He had just come off a very good win. Perhaps one of the best wins of recent times. However you can't deny Mosley wasn't already on his way down by the time he fought Floyd. The Mayweather and Mora fights plus un-Shane-like inactivity will probably show through versus Pacquiao.

Might be a stretch to call him shot though.

    past his best no doubt

Shot ( as we know is a well worn term ) I always took shot to mean , timing has completely gone , that kind of extrmeme deterioration. Mosley isnt the man he was , he would have given Floyd ( and especially ) Pac all the trouble they could handle at his best , now , well we saw teh Floyd fight and I think Pac will run over the top of him.

Peak v Peak Mosley v Pac would have been the ****ing balls !

He's as shot as he will be when he faces Pacquiao. On second thought he may be better now in terms of conditioning. Remember he overtrained in the Mayweather fight.

I believe he did over-train for the Mayweather bout...but mentally, Mosley definitely can't be in as good a place he was after the Margarito win. Kind of evens things out.

Anyone who fights Mayweather becomes instantly shot/faded etc. (atleast on ESB)

Shot is like Roy Jones jr. Mosley is past his best no doubt, and far from his best. His legs are gone, and so are his reflexes. This fight with Pac man is a really bad mismatch

heavilly declined i'd say. and will be even more so come May.

Not Shot. Shot implies he can't beat anyone when i'd give him a good chance against a lot of fighters.

Well, it went like this for me....

Sep 2008 – Having watched his less-than-impressive display against Mayorga - where he was troubled on numerous occasions and looked lethargic in the latter rounds - I was certain that Mosley was past his best and that he should call it a day.

Jan 2009 pre-Margarito – Still convinced by what I saw a few months ago, I thought Margarito was gonna get a UD. I believed his excellent stamina and work-rate would be enough to beat an aged Mosley.

Jan 2009 post-Margarito – In awe of his destruction of Margarito, I was seeing a rejuvenated Mosley. With Mayweather retired, Pacquiao yet to establish himself at 147, and Cotto still recovering from Margarito’s beating, Mosley in my eyes was easily the number one welterweight.

Pre-Mayweather – With no legitimate money-making opponent besides Pacquiao, I believed Mayweather was forced into accepting Mosley’s challenge. The awesome Margarito-victory was still fresh in my mind, and I thought Mayweather was in for the fight of his life. Unfortunately, I was paying very little regards to:
    • My thoughts on how Mosley looked against Mayorga
    • The stylistic benefits that Margarito had brought for Mosley.
    • Margarito being physically and mentally hampered; making him there for the taking.
    • 13 months of inactivity and a wasted training camp for the Berto fight.
Post-Mayweather – Those feelings I had right after the Mayorga fight, came flooding back. Mosley looked appalling. He definitely is shot. How on earth did I let that Margarito fight – which I now realized was very deceptive – persuade me that he would be the biggest test of Mayweather’s career? But fug it, Mayweather fought the guy we wanted him to face, and he did his job.

I'd say if 10 is prime and 1 is shot to ****, Mosley was about a 5 or 6. Mosley was also inactive for over 15 months which didn't help

keep in mind that before Cotto vs Mosley, people were saying Cotto was gonna fight a past-prime Mosley.

    That was in 2007

How can a guy who was regarded as top p4p material (Mosley was in almost everyone's top 5 coming into the Floyd fight), be considered shot?

Mosley wasn't prime, but beating him, especially the way Floyd did, was impressive, and a very solid victory.
