Dawson/Hop will never happen. a) it's not a style he'll look good against and could very well drop a close decision against b) Dawson is a notorious non-draw: this is THE WORST risk/reward fight available to him The CW Ademak fight is the obvious one but Ademak may not be interested at this point. The way Hop dicked him around, I wouldn't blame him on passing or being a real dick at the bargaining table. The idea of a Haye fight is just inane enough to happen, but it would be a while away. The only thing certain is BHop isn't going to get the send-off payday he'd hoped for, not with the ease a Jones fight would have been anyway.
Hopkins will not fight Dawson, but if he wants a challenge he could do it because if he wins, that would be a great way to go out of boxing. If Hopkins did beat Dawson, some would just say Dawson was overrated. Regardless, the chance he does win puts him in a great position ATG.
The only way Hopkins potentially loses this is if he fights Dawson's fight. If Dawson for any reason at all is lured into Hopkin's fight which at some point he will, Dawson is too one dimensional to score effectively. He just doesn't have any idea how to fight coming foward. He looked pitiful on the occasions he came foward against Tarver in the second fight and the way they were fighting made it an almost unwatchable fight. This is a synopsis.....Dawson throws punches, Tarver covers up. Then it's Tarver's turn. Tarver throws punches, Dawson covers up. Then it's Dawson's turn. Dawson throws punches, Tarver covers up. Hopkins just beat the **** outta Tarver. It wasn't even competitive. What makes you think he can't do the same thing to Dawson who hasn't proved he's as resilient enough to get passed Hopkins nor skilled enough.
First off, Wright wasn't a ring or lineal champ. Second; Pavlik and Calzaghe were champs at a lower weight class(Pavlik was actually two divisions below Hopkins). Third; Dawson is the no.1 rated LHW, and Hopkins is rated no.2. So if Hopkins is so enamoured with ring and/or lineal champs, then why not fight Dawson for the opportunity to become the Ring champion? Anyway, let's wait to see what happens. Hopkins just may take the fight if there is a demand for it.
Hopkins is 44 years old now. He'd be a fool to get in there with Dawson. He chooses his opponents wisely now due to his age. Hopkins isn't dumb enough to get in with Dawson, and I won't hold it against him.
You're either a boxrec warrior or a damn fool if you think Johnson was in his prime when he faced Hopkins. Anyway, I still doubt the money is there for a Dawson fight.
I would rather see Dawson fight Tavoris Cloud, Jean Pascal, or Zsolt Erdei than Old Man Hopkins. Bernard would be lucky to win 3 rounds against Dawson at this point in his career.
1) Winky was a lineal champion and became one by beating Shane Mosley at 154. I don't know why you'd say differently. Also, I never said those fighters held that achievement at the weight Hopkins fought them at, just that they had. That's an accurate statement. It's also accurate to say they were all more accomplished in that regard (lineal, ring, unified titles, defenses, name value, etc.) than Dawson is right now no matter how much people want to discount that. Hopkins sure isn't. 2) Hopkins was already Ring LHW champion which he got by dismantling Tarver before Dawson cleaned up his leftovers. 3) Dawson doesn't have dick to offer Hopkins that he didn't already get from the fights he's had at 175. He doesn't have the name, is less accomplished, and brings in less cash than any of Hopkins' last four opponents did. That's bad business for a fighter on his way out, and one thing Hopkins isn't is a bad business man. You don't have to like my logic. But deep down, you know Hopkins is going through alot of the same thought processes. Personally, I'd actually like to see that fight. But realistically? I'd be absolutely floored if it happened for the reasons I outlined above. The wildcard is HBO, who has made it their agenda to put Dawson on the Jermain Taylor fast track to superstardom and is now hyping the **** out of him and even got him bumped up into a P4P slot for beating the same guy he'd already beaten. If they throw enough money towards it, Hopkins might take the fight anyways.
It might happen because Hopkins do not have a K.O. victory since 2004 ! Dawson likes that fact a lot !!
