So we're all in universal agreement, yes? Roach better trainer than May

Everyone seems to be in a sort of universal agreement; Freddie Roach is a better trainer than Roger Mayweather.

Note the Mayweather boys are more defence-oriented, whilst Roach is more offensive strategically.

But are we in consensus agreement about this?

Pac has improved tremendously under Roach. A lot of people bug on the Mayweathers as coaches I think because Sr. didn't achieve something similiar with Ricky Hatton.

But I feel defensive strategy boxing takes years of developing and training. Obviously the Mayweathers have had Floyd for his entire life to work on - so he has been able to incorporate that training as second nature. Whereas if you have a new fighter in your stable (particularly one who is inflexible and set in his boxing ways e.g. older fighters) it will take a lot longer to train him in the art of "hit and don't get hit".

So maybe Roger doesn't get the credit he deserves.

He ain't a Penrose, but he ain't Yoel Judah either.

roach is better, because Roger is around 25% punch drunk, whereas Roach, still maintains a HIGH IQ!!!!:yep

Freddie Roach has developed Manny into something extraordinary. Considering how limited Manny used to be, and how complete a fighter he is now, its quite remarkable.

Consider also that Roach has trained a number of great fighters, who have won world titles and been elite contenders in their weight classes

The Mayweathers have done great things with Floyd Jr, but he has been training his whole life as you said. He has had a lifetime to get where he is. Floyd is obviously an extraordinary fighter as well

I do feel though that Mayweather Jr is a singular product. Being trained by his father and uncle worked out wonderfully, but neither man has really produced any other notable fighters under their tutelage. Sr's most successful fighter is DLH, who he trained from 01-06, and had mixed success with

Roach is the perfect trainer for Manny and Roger is the perfect trainer for Floyd. However, I think if you switch fighers with trainers, Floyd still excels where I think Manny loses something.

Roach knows how to get Manny to work. I think with Floyd, he wouldn't have to do anything, push any buttons, etc; Floyd would jus work. I'm not saying Manny wouldn't, but I don't see Roger being a motivator, but rather a partner in what Floyd wants to accomplish. Floyd runs his house and Manny just runs around his house. To a certain degree he runs it, but with Floyd, there is NO question who the boss is.

Just look at the past champions and fighters they have trained other than current! You will see Roach is ahead. Then if you add the current boxers, he leaves the whole Mayweather family in the dust.

Who cares? Whichever fighter wins the fight, there's the better trainer.

If you listen closely and have your jive translator, he does have some credible input to Floyd. Roger actually impresses me at times, because he doesnt overdo it, just gives him a couple things to keep in mind like a proper position to be in and what punch to throw, of course its mixed in with mutha****a and whip his azz, but Floyd already knows what to do once Roger gives him the subtle move.
Roach on the other hand has more programming to do with Manny to get him ready for a fight, beacuse hes not as complete of a fighter as FLoyd.

Roach is the better trainer for Pacquaio
Rogger and sometimes Floyd (Sr.) Mayweather are the better trainers for Mayweather Jr.

i'm even until the fight. roach is a great trainer no doubt, but under nasim richardson, hopkins beats calzaghe. under roach he loses by a split decsion. speaking of which, enzo calzaghe isn't a bad trainer either. roger mayweather is a great trainer and his fighter has never tasted defeat. it's a tough call. i say mayweather because mayweather is going to box circles around pacman after the 4th round.
