Money’s coming from Joshua, primarily. It’s like trying to raise money for a film. The backers say no. You then approach a star, who says no, he wants x amount. You then go back to the backers asking for money, claiming you’ve got a star actor. They say get them to agree and we’re good to go. You then go back to the actor... you get the picture.

I’d wager that the money will be raised, based after the agreement is in place. Something Matchroom can do themselves. But by team Wilder doing it through them they put themselves in a position of power. The “needs agreeing within 24 hours” nonsense is definitely PR rubbish

The money comes from the revenue? The first 50m generated goes to Joshua. If it doesnt hit 50m in revenue then the difference comes out of Wilders pocket. At least that what I assume.

Hearn has already covered this in interviews using an analogy with him offering to put on a Beyonce (do you see what he did there...) concert, depending on Beyonce's star power to secure the revenues.

So his next move, asking to see the money, is the appropriate counter to this offer. In order to guarantee AJ's $50m Hearn will ostensibly, justifiably, want to see proof of funding for the entire show, minus Wilder's cut. Does that money exist outside of a signed AJ, the proven draw in this fight? My guess is not, what they want is an AJ signature for them then to go to finance and say 'we have this guy signed'. Do they have the money in a guarantee that doesn't say 'subject to the signature of Anthony Joshua'? It's unlikely.

All of which means each party has now offered a bid that's unlikely to see a fight delivered. Wilder won't sign to a flat fee, AJ isn't really going to sign the boxing equivalent of a blank checque. If we are to get a fight they will need to effectively start again at this meeting and negotiate in good faith a fair deal for all parties.

If they don't then each of them have their exit strategies:

Eddie Hearn 'They turned down 5 times Wilder's biggest payday guaranteed. A solid costed offer. They already signed with Breazeale, he don't want it'
Wilder's team 'We gave him the deal he wanted but he refused to sign. He shook'

Al Haymon flexing with that slush fund again.

Which is how it should be anyway, behind closed doors that is.
I’ve been saying for ages now that both parties are gonna fight probably 2019 and that all this public negotiating stuff is just WWE type thing and yet I’m surprised how many on here fall for it.

It doesn't matter where the money is coming from as long as it's there. Haymon, Finkel etc... will have to show proof of funds, and $50m will go into escrow.

Note, on a smaller scale, Parker's purse against Hughie Fury was guaranteed, and even though the fight didn't generate enough revenue to pay it, he still got all the money.

It does matter. Hearn and AJ have a brand to protect. If the money comes from Pyongyang because Kim Jong Un has developed a liking for pro boxing or similar, the brand is damaged regardless of the fight outcome. The sign it in 24 hours and you don't know the location stuff is similarly bogus.

It's a pantomime isn't it? Hearn's been tweaking their nose all this week, now they tweaked back. It probably contributes zero to nothing to the negotiation process. Entertaining though!

It isn't going to come from Kim Jong Un though, as long as it comes from Wilder's team, why would they need to reveal anything other than the fact that it is there.

Until the contract has been send and a bank guarantee has been given, it's a pr move.

It's just talk, a PR stunt as usual from Wilder. Wilder does not want to fight Joshua period. Ryabinskiy is a multi-billionaire and can provide plenty of money for a fight with Povetkin, as he did before....................but Wilder does not want to fight him. Povetkin was proven innocent, yes, VADA cleared Povetkin, yet Haymon and his WBC refused to allow Povetkin to fight Wilder...............

How is it a pr move if they sent an email to Eddie Hearn?

Were you asking to see a bank guarantee when Hearn was sending Wilder tweets offering a flat fee 12 million purse and giving him 48 hours to agree?

See my point above about the due diligence required when managing a multi hundred million pound brand...
