How do you see his popularity playing out, as opposed to the current glam squad of hatton, calzhage, khan ect ?

If Hennesey had used his head and let terrestrial TV have the fight for peanuts he'd be sports personality of the year come december.

As it stands he'll be the true British boxing fans best kept secret. I like it that way.

Depends on how much publicity he can generate from the win. It's all about promotion.

He ought to be getting the same press Hatton, Khan and Haye currently recieve.

Well he's still undefeated which sells (like it or not), and I think there is a possibly the Americans may take to him.

    Hatton > Khan > Haye > Froch

Froch has been promoted bad imo.

Khan has the Muslim Olympic hero angle, Haye is a HW, Hatton the working mans favourite, I dont see Froch having a particular 'hook' to elevate him in the eyes of the British public who need some sort of angle for a fighter to make it out of the trade press and into the wider world of the tabloids

Depends on his next few fights. He's got good momentum going after outpointing Pascal and having his first success on the big stage in America. He should take some more big American fights (like it or not, that's what makes stars) and depending on his success, alternate between the UK and America after that.

Being big in America is important if you want to land big fights. Either that or you somehow convince the big boys to come to your home country and fight you.

  10. Froch vs Bute would be a great fight to have at a solid English venue, could even possible throw The Ring belt in the mix for that one.

Hopefully, because of the finish, he should get some good publicity (top story on skysports news right now) and at least 1-2 million people will watch the fight today.

I think this could propel him to real stardom

I'll bet this is (relatively) huge in America now

They thought he was a sacrificial lamb for Taylor, the fools

And I bet the ITV broadcast does big numbers as word spreads

  14. It's going to be difficult to propel him to global stardom unless he avoids unification and goes for marquee matches stateside. If I'm not wrong every SMW World Champ is European.

But Bute is Romanian-Canadian and fights out of Canada, he's been on Showtime twice(on Shobox cards), and ESPN Friday Night fights once, aswell as having nearly all his fights(bar maybe when he was a real novice) televised on Canadian television, so he's a huge name in Canada, and in a name in the United States.

Mikkel Kessler wants the big fights in the US, but he's got a **** promoter so he has to sort that out first. His fights against Librado Andrade and Joe Calzaghe were televised on HBO, and I think highlights of his fight with Marcus Beyer were shown on HBO aswell.
America may have slightly forgotten who he is because he hasn't been talked about there since the Calzaghe fight but one fight in the US and he'd be a name again.

Balzsay will only be leaving Germany for the comfort of Hungary or Switzerland or Austria or anywhere that's basically safe to have a German promotion and make sure the 'right' result is given.

Now if Librado Andrade, Allan Green, Andre Dirrell, Andre Ward or Edison Miranda were to grab a belt they'd be big unification fights in America.

So although yes all the Champions are European(usually the way at Super-Middleweight), a fight with Mikkel Kessler is the only one that might happen in Europe(cause Balzsay isn't fighting another champ), and it'd still be on American tv anyway.
