Rob, you are so pessimistic it's unreal. My parents told me as a child 'be happy with what you get' and considering this is what we are getting, you might as well just live with it; you need to be realistic about things. It's obvious, to me at least, that GBP had to get JMM back in a marketable fight after the loss to PBF and a repeat of last year's FOTY was the best way to achieve it. It's a win-win situation for GBP as the winner is in their hands. Of course Diaz doesn't deserve a shot either, but what were the other options for both fighters? The fight I wanted to see most this time last year was JMM-Valero as I think JMM would have put on a clinic in a very entertaining fight, but Valero's not really a marketable opponent anymore considering he's in a coffin. The next logical opponent was then Katsidis, but considering GBP wanted to keep this fight in-house he wasn't a realistic option either. If the fight turns out to be half as exciting as the first, I'd be happy. To add to that, we've got the best card I've seen in ages to look forward to and you're still not happy.
    __________________________________________

Another thing that has been ****ing me right off since September last year is everyone seems to have lost respect for JMM and has been writing him off since the PBF loss. I've seen so many ****s saying he's 'shot' on the back of a fight against one of the most technically gifted fighters in the sport today at a weight two weight divisions above his optimum weight class. Compare JMM's last 5 fights to everyone else's in the sport and tell me who has had the best run of opponents and victories B2B, then tell me he's 'shot'. JMM returns on 31st July:bbb:happy:bbb.

Right lets go through those cards with my "Rob Palmer Suicide Watch" glasses on.

Winky-Bingham is a mismatch. Bingham has been KO'd at domestic level.
Benn-Collins. Nigel Benn is shot. Has lost his last 2 fights .
Hide-Swindell. A complete mismatch. Swindell has lost 4 out his last 7.

Tyson-Holy. Paper title. Foreman is the real champ. This sort of BS is killing our sport
Lopez-Ndumo. Boring. Another 12 round snoozefest from Lopez.
Moorer-Botha. Another paper title. Moorer was KO'd by Foreman. Waste of time.
Akinwande-Zolkin. 2 Boring Eurobums fighting for the meaningless HW WBO title

While Foreman is still Heavyweight champ and active the whole American card is a farce and a disgrace to boxing. Its just a succession of heavyweight fights for meaningless baubles.

    Losfer,

We’re in complete agreement. Rob seems to be harking to an era he neither watched boxing during nor was alive to witness anyway.

This is the best card we’ve seen in ages with high profile fighters, up and coming guys and competitive matches from top to tail. JMM and Diaz are two of my favourite fighters and the match will most likely be exciting while it lasts.

Add to that Linares, who’s a great fighter to watch, against Juarez who often makes for good fights even if he falls short against the bets out there. I just don’t see why Rob has to be negative about it.

Beggars can't be choosers. Tis miles better than the usual undercard fights we get, a series meaningless affairs typically between a young fighter who won't be relevant for another couple of years padding his record against an old fighter who hasn't been relevant for a couple of years.

fair enough guys. i never said it wasn't a good undercard its just not amazing thats what youve been saying. don't see why we should be applauding goldenboy for putting on a half decent show once a year.

saturday night should be the minimum we expect from hbo ppv.

Saying that some fights will drop off from the Magnificent 7 over the next 2 months (ie. very, very likely) isn't comparable to the pit of despair you've been rolling around in for the past few weeks.

They were unlikely to be good fights based on the favourites. Mayweather and Wlad can suck the energy out of a bar room brawl. But I think there are better fights, qualitatively speaking, to come:

    Froch-Abraham can't fail
Martinez-Angulo would be incredible (Martinez-Williams would be better)
Cotto-Berto would be amazing for about six rounds until Berto's guts get folded in
Katsidis-Marquez would be a stunner (in fact, Katsidis-Diaz II could be a stunner, if Kats doesn't break his right hand again)
    Macklin-Barker should be a great match-up
    Lopez-Marquez will be great

All better, more competitive, more exciting fights than the two you're mourning.
