So, what exactly does Soto have to defeat a true supernatural?

I can't think of anything, however, I agknowledge that his style will trouble Joan Guzman. I feel bad that Soto had been avoided, but so has Guzman in the same, but even worse.

I'm surprised Guzman has limited support, he's highly entertaining and one of the most naturally gifted and skilled fighters around. If you could mix James Toney and Joe Calzaghe's styles, you'd have Guzman's style.

By the way guys, I am fine, thankyou for your concern.

I was picking Guzman earlier this week. But now after seeing the weigh-in pics, and reading an interview with Mayweather Sr. yesterday where he mentions the struggle Joan had making weight and how badly he gassed working the pads, I'm changing my pick.

    Good to see you back:good

I feel Humberto Soto has tools to give Guzman a very good fight and make it tough. His workrate, crisp punches, body shots, and pressure could give anybody trouble. But when it comes down to it, I don't see him beating Guzman.

Guzman gives different angles and he's a very unpredictable fighter. He's also more versatile. I see him landing the cleaner shots and ultimately, more shots. His fast combinations and defense should see him through to a decision win over Soto.

How did you score this fight Amsterdam? Is it just me, or are Harold Lederman's scorecards getting stranger and stranger?

Guzman 117-111, pretty clear really. You?

Are some people debating the scores? Guzman landed 302 to Soto's 192.

Soto, the supposed accurate monster only landed at 22%, how's that for some supernatural defence?:D

Welcome back, guy - glad to hear you're feeling better! :good

I think Guzman is getting slagged because he's more of a boxer than many boxing fans like. I have to say, too, that showboating crap doesn't endear him to the fans either. He's a very good fighter, but that **** has got to GO. :yep

I have to say Amsterdam, your skills at judging when a rising fighter is a true supernatural are impressive (did you pick Mijares to dominate Arce BTW?). I liked Guzman before this fight, but didn't think of him nearly as highly as I do after this performance. It pisses me off that the HBO crew didn't emphasize just how amazing Guzman was tonight. He made beating Soto, a top 130 pounder, look like nothing. If Pacquiao goes nuts and decides to fight Guzman next summer or late next year, he is going to be owned.

I think having Floyd Sr. in his corner makes Guzman a safer fighter who doesn't engage in brawls as much as he used to, which is very good if he fights Pac. He's very slick, but still manages to be very exciting. After tonight, he is probably my favorite fighter 130/under since Barrera retired. That last round where he danced, made some insane unorthodox defensive moves, and launched a snot rocket was great. I disagree with Zakman about the showboating, I loved that and it only added to his sensational performance. It's amazing how relaxed he is and his chin seems to be iron, so even if he gets caught while messing around, it won't matter.

What do you think his next step should be? The top guys at 130 are tied up right now and Valero seems like the only good choice. He would really impress against him and he could stop him too. Valero has been hurt badly and dropped by shitty fighters with weak power before and Guzman could get hyped by HBO for stopping a "champion" who's 22-0 (22KOS).

What a lot of people don't realise, is that you have to judge competition as where it stands and that you can tell if a guy has definite world class potential even against cans. Most guys who are nothing but hype jobs make errors against lower level opposition, note Abner Mares last night.

Against that opposition, Guzman wasn't even getting tagged and his timing was perfect, then he steps up gradually and performs to the same level against B- veterans like Sanchez, where as Pac had his issue's with Sanchez before he came out.:yep

Most boxing fans think you need to fight a world class to prove that you can do a lot, when that's not true, especially for avoided guys, then they go off and get hyped on someone who's not even that impressive, like Andy Lee for example. Andy Lee is going to amount to nothing.

Anyway, yes, I took Mijares over Arce.
Agreed fully, it was just a bit of fun and games and Floyd SR seems to be a good trainer for most slick boxer types.
Well, we agreed that Pac would get owned, so that's what I'd like to see next, but Valero would also be fine as that'd be one more step at cleaning the division.

Valero likely gets stopped, he's 1 dimensional, poor defence, poor timing and seems chinny. Guzman hasn't KOed people lately, but he's also not feather fisted.

It's funny, Guzman was able to sink Soto, only because both guys are heavily avoided. Valero is making money KOing cans in Japan, doubt it happens.

Well, I suppose everyone has their own definition of entertainment, but personally, I am VERY turned off by that kind of **** - as are alot of other fans, I think. It is probably the chief reason I couldn't stand Pernell Whitaker. It shows up opponents, and is VERY unsportsmanlike.

You know what's ironic about this post -

Pernell Whitaker is the guy that got me into boxing, I found his style and defence to be thrilling to watch.

One thing you have to understand about Guzman is that he's heavily submersed in the latin machismo mentality and he's a little crazy to begin with, he feels he's the alpha male and acts accordingly with it.

I found it mildly entertaining, but I could see how someone else wouldn't like it.

Now, what's your take on Guzman vs. Pac and Guzman vs. Marquez Zak?
