Anybody think he will be back? He had so much promise and was on course to becoming a true ATG and he just self destructed. I still can't see how he could box with Hopkins and Winky Wright, but lose to Kelly Pavlik.
I had him going 0-1-2 in the 3 fights with Hopkins and Winky, so I think what happened to him was that he got into a position in boxing that his talents didn't merit because of dodgy decisions, and once in that position he was exposed. The guy had decent fundamental abilities, but always lacked a certain fortitude required for the top level.
i have a controversial opinion that i thought he would have beat Ward if that fight would have went through like it was suppose to.
You mean with his career, or lately? There are a few posts here about his career, so I go for lately. What happened was that he got KO'd by Abraham, and suffered from memory loss. I'd say "easy fix". Call Max Kellerman, and he'll show him the video and say; "Look Jermain, this is how you got KTFO!"
Lack of coolness in the ring got the best of him. In basketball some guys can shoot 20 3-pointers or 50 free throws in a row. Come game to, they clank them off the rim.
I don't see Taylor coming back. His last few fights ended badly and I don't think he has much left to prove, or in the tank these days. Taylor and ATG??? Sorry I don't see that, at all. I have him 1-1 against Hopkins in very close decisions and 0-1 against Wright, again in a very close decsion. Taylor was good, but no where near ATG. And Pavlik is kinda the same story, a guy with much promise and possibility but who just fell apart. He had the tools physically, although lacks lateral movement and the ability to adjust in the ring, but he didn't mentally. Taylor achieved what he was able to, same with Pavlik, although I do think Pavlik should have achieved more. At that time no one could have stopped him. With todays crop its a different story.
He got knocked out - then got knocked out again - then for the 3rd time. I believe those last 2 KO's did it - especially when they both came with about 10 seconds left in the fight. He would have won the fight against Froch - had he stayed on his feet. Too bad - hopefully he has enough money put away to live happily ever after. Steward used to say that Taylor hated road work. Instead of running outside - he would simply run on the treadmill. Sometimes it just doesn't pay to take the shortcuts.
Ozell Nelson is, was, and will forever be, Jermain Taylor's worst enemy! Nelson stirred up the **** that lead to the Taylor/Burns split. After that Emmanual Steward criminally under rated Pavlik. Nelson trained JT for the Froch fight. Before the 11th round Nelson told JT, "You need these last two rounds big," even though Jermain was obviously way ahead on the cards, and the rest is history.
