So what exactly happened with the GGG/Derevyanchenko situation?

Golovkin's resume is very shallow. He talked a lot but did not back up his talk.

Even with HBO pushing him on the fans and casuals he was never able to break through like Pacquiao, because as ignorant as casuals are, they aren't all stupid.

    I'd call it half-ducking.

Derevyanchenko is a dangerous and high risk opponent with low reward. On the other hand, Golovkin concentrated his mind and energy on one opponent and that opponent only, Canelo. When the deal was off, he was given only 2 months period of preparation, while still hoping the fight is a go since the money pot is just too big for him to miss. He could have fought Derevyanchenko, but he knew it's not a fight where he can win undamaged. It seems between his IBF belt and Canelo fight, he eventually chose the latter. I would do the same if I were him. You are not going to a war if you are unprepared and uncertain that you can win it. And it's proven to be the right decision since Canelo is finally given clearance to fight him this year.

But I'm sure if Golovkin still dream to unify all the belts, he'll cross fist with Derevyanchenko in the future.

This is probably the best answer anyone is going to write or read. I think GGG saw no real financial advantage to fighting a hungry buzzsaw and settled on Vanes as a glorified sparring session/tune-up. I think it was a good decision as my money would've been on GGG getting beat.

Instead they choose a Jr.MW gatekeeper, inactive for two years.

He was a good AM but really excelled in WSB. It's not the same as some random 12 fight novice and you know that full well yourself.

It was a duck. GGG knew he was going to fight CLENelo either way so he didn't want to "risk".

    Er... No.

Whilst I think you can say Golovkin ducked Dev I don't think you'd be righr to say Canelo would of done anything hugely differently in his position.

The guy who was already in training for a fight and who had given Lara (the guy that arguably beat Canelo and supposedly GGG's boogeyman) all he could handle? And let's not forget Munguia, who one fight later looks to be a very viable opponent for GGG being the LHW champ?

So triple g knew he was going to get beat, thats why he choose to fight a retired Jr middleweight! That in my book is a disgusting duck

One of the worst and most blatant ducks ive ever seen.

He gave up his belt so he could fight a guy one division south who was coming off a loss and hadn't fought in 2 years.. Just appalling in all honesty.

No it's a duck if you defend your MW belt vs glass chinned WW like Khan

He chose to fight Vanes so he wouldn't risk losing the Canelo fight. I don't like it and voiced my displeasure at the time, but it is what it is.
But then he'd have only taken flak for fighting a '12 fight novice' anyways...
